Bush Hog

After reading 18 pages of posts (channel locks, Vice grips, skill saw etc ) my input is:
Am I the only one who calls Diagonal or straight side cutter pliers “dikes”?
Nope. Just need to be more careful of where you reference a pair of dikes.

You shouldn't be the only one, because "Dikes" is a colloquial contraction of "Diagonals". However, if you call lineman's pliers dikes, that's a faux pas. Dyke, on the other hand, is another whole different story.

And linesman’s pliers I can “electrical” pliers.

I was USAF-trained as an electronic technician in the vacuum tube days and later got an electrical engineering degree in the dawn of the personal computers. Yea, I’m “old school”!

Sorry to derail this thread….

Sometimes youth has a way of being brash while trying to educate customers so you can fulfil their needs or wants. Day after day of people not knowing what they want, the model, and sometimes even the make of equipment, you would like to make a point so they come with the correct information so you can give them the correct part and they are satisfied that you gave them the correct part. It beats having them return with the wrong part because YOU did not know what machine or serial number they own.
How about you head to the boot and grab a spanner so I can fit the earth connection?

Go get the stretch ladder off the truck. Turn on that hose pipe. Get a jitterbug on this concrete.

Would that be an adjustable spanner?
Yup at least here in the "colonies" as some of my mates would have called the US. But a "spanner" over there is a wrench of fixed design. A wrench over there is what we would call a Crecent or Channel Locks, basically any adjustable if memory serves. O-k here goes my vocabulary class, the root is "spannen" from german to 'draw tight. :geek:
