Bush Hog brand rotary mower

I have a 6 foot Bush Hog brand rotary mower. Need to change the gear oil, it is almost yellow, looks like it could have gotten water in it. Sat out all winter uncovered. 80/90 weight gear oil sound correct for new fluid?

I use 90 W gear oil for my bushhog. I have started using synthetic oils to get a little more life out of them too.

Corn Head grease (0wt) may be a better option. It was made for gear boxes.

Just went to this oil this year in the BH brand BH and the Flail. Hoping it makes everything last longer.

I have an 8' Bush Hog withe a central gear box and one on either side that drive the blades.
Few years ago the right hand side one started to leak so much gear oil I couldn't keep up.
I packed it with old grease I had.
No problem.
If yours isn't leaking 90 gear oil is good.

Always ran 90W gear oil in mine, never a problem. Always best to set it on something non-permeable, up off the ground with a roof and ventilation all around, if you want the machine and fluids to last. My own sits in a small purpose-built shed, which was knocked together in a day for maybe $200:

Mine did, when I bought it. But an oil seal change resolved that for all of $15, and it's been dry underneath ever since.
