Burning belt/delayed pto

I have an older style 2166 cub and when i turn on the pto the pto turns on and spins the 1st belt but burns up once it trys to spin the deck and it takes 10 secs to get it spining and doesnt cut any long grass it burns the belt up. Iv checked the belts and they seem pretty tight. This hasnt been a problem until recently.

Sounds like maybe the bearings in the spindles for the blades may be seized up. Do they turn free?

They spin together when the deck is off, yes.

It was just the deck belt.

The pullies need to be totally rust free otherwise belts just won't last.
Best/cheepest would be to replace any rusted ones as they are actually inexpensive.
