Built a Rock Sling

Well,

Another weekend of moving rocks. 20 down, about 300 to go. I don't have an FEL, and although I could use one, I don't have the space. I'd have to take it off every time I mowed...

So I designed and built the RockSling(R).

I've found that my tire chains work well for pulling big rocks out of holes too. Just attach the tire chain around the rock and pull it out with anonther chain.

Looks neat.

I have a couple big nylon webbing slings that are very handy for lifting and wrestling things around.

Great idea.......I think even with a FEL the Rock Sling would be easier to use. I am guessing most of your rocks are about the same size. If not I saw the adjustment holes in the base.

nice sling... I still haven't tried MOVING my bolders out of the bottom land yet I will probably move them using somethign similar... I have soem bigger than the ones you have in the sling on the other forum (china one I think).

was that one you built you're self? I was thinking of buying an inexpensive 3pt pallet fork carry all thing and adding holes and some D rings . they can be had for CHEAP usually... just thought I'd mention that for those who can't weld /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Took about 8 hours from start to finish. Would have been less time if the wire spool on the MIG didn't get all discombobulated.

I got the idea watching a forklift move large stacks of product around at a warehouse.

I needed a way to lift and set rocks in tight quarters. A traditional sling sets the rock on the sling, so now you have to get the sling out. A pallett mover has to be able to slide under the rock, not possible in my application. Here all you need is the sides exposed such that the the legs can be drawn in narrower than the rock.

Follow-up. Here's a rock that required 250 lbs of additional front wieght to lift.

I will need to beef up the leg attachments to continue to lift things this big.

As you approach the rock, does the articulating lower arms cause any trouble with sticking into the ground?

When backing up to the rock, the arms are hooked up by the chain and the 3pt is raised. I back up to the rock, then lower the 3pt. A little more reverse to make solid contact.

Every once in a while, I have to position the arms and move another couple of inches depending on how tight the quarters are.
