Looks like I dodged a bullet. The water cut a path across the top of the dam about 13-15 feet wide but only about 1 foot deep. Doesn't look like compaction is going to be an issue. Surprisingly the dirt on the wash side is rock solid. You could walk on it in your tennis shoes.

Good on the amount of damage!!! On a project that size your advantage with the CTL is the number of trips required. So you are lifting the dam inch at a time. I was afraid you'd have a pic of the center of the dam gone!!!! Hope you dodge heavy rains the rest of the week!!!

I wish we would get some of that rain, it keeps going just north of us, and south of us.

We got about 1" last week in a couple hours, didnt seem to put a dent in the brown grass!

Just finished putting the drain line back together and got the siphone started again. Going to take awhile this time. Closest neighbor had 5.5" in his guage.

Whew... that was close! A really good sign for the future that the dam didn't blow. Having a spillway in hard ground if you can seems really smart to me for those hard rains. As the pond size increases you might get significantly more runoff into it so siphons/spillways will be both your friend and insurance.

Friend of mine put heavy duty plastic in his ditch when water over flowed his dam. He kept it in place with sacks of sand, concrete and cinder blocks. It was ugly, but it stopped the erosion from getting worse until he could get the dozer back to finish building the dame and then create a spillway.

Sounds like a smart temporary thing to do especially if weather could be threatening during the excavation/build!

Not a bad idea for the low spot on the dam. Pond has been draining all afternoon and only down about 2 feet or less at sunset. Looking like the chance of rain for tonight dropped from 90% to 60% so hoping it doesn't get topped a second time.

We got hammered again last night. The dam was topped again but not much additional damage. The siphon was still running this morning. Here's a couple of pics as of 8am

I guess we are fortunate around here in the PNW not to get crazy rains in the summer time to mess with projects like this!

Water is down several feet as of this morning and no rain in the forcast until Sunday so looks like I'm in the clear. Should be able to get out tomorrow and start clearing the trees I've dropped. I'll probably focus solely on tree removal around the entire pond basin before going back to moving dirt.

Stuck #3. Was moving too quick and dropped a track into a hole next to a tree I was digging out. In the process I threw the right track that was in the hole. I decided this time to record a video of using a chain and bucket to drag the CTL out to level ground.

Never thought of using the bucket to curl your way out of a hole. That's a lot of in and out of the machine for every foot, but it definitely worked!!!

I do that more times than I like to admit, hoping every time that my bucket hook weld will hold. With a tractor you often are in a hole, so just need to do it once.

It probably wouldn’t have worked with 1 track off but I’ve used my tractor with the cruise control on to assist in pulling another machine when I was by myself. I had a CTL buried deep in a stump hole and got it out that way. I’ve also pulled my bucket truck out with it in gear. I couldn’t pull it dead weight so I put it in gear, pulled it almost out, then took it out of gear and pulled it the rest of the way.

The right track in the hole was off. Hydraulics at least on this machine are strong enough to drag it with or without tracks turning.
