building a culitivator?

Hi I was wondering if I were to build a s tie cultivator where would I buy the s tines? Could I get them at any dealer? also any tips on building a cultivator pictures maybe?

I built mine with strait shanks that hold chisel points..... From Farm and Fleet...
Not perfect, but useful....

would 3by3 steel tubing be overkill for a 10-12 foot cultivator? what sizes steel should I use?

Are you building a row crop cultivator or a field cultivator? I built a 4 row, 30 inch with 2X2 1/4inch tubing and it served me well. However, if it were a field cultivator, it would have double(at least) the S-tines. Also, if you are building a field cultivator, you may want more than a single row of S-tines for soil and crop residue flow. I had an Unverferth 13 foot S-tine field cultivator with 3 rows of S-tines and a row of railroad spikes. The entire frame was 2X2 square steel.

Our old Bergmann (??) cultivator is made entirely of 1/2 by 2" flatbar and has served us well, even with 90hp in front of it pulling it to the frame. the flatbars to which the teeth are mounted are flat, and it has four longitudinal flatbars positioned upright over them. That means on a 3 meter working with they are about 2 feet apart.

This Kongskilde triple K is about the same frame as ours: Farm Machinery & Plant Auctions Auction Catalogue - Kongskilde Triple K 2.5m Cultivator as you can see its just flatbar. flatbar is way cheaper than hollow profiles like round or square tubing, but the weight vs strength ratio (torsional stability) levels this advantage out again.
