I have a 3 pt 60" finish cut mower deck (king cutter) from tractor supply that is about 4 years old. I want to add a 10-15 hp engine to it (mount it to the deck) to provide its own power supply so i can tow it with an ATV. I would like to be able to convert it back to tractor/3 pt use occasionally. Does anyone have an idea how I can accomplish this? It would need some type of connection to the exsisting shaft drive and poss some type of "clutch" to engage it so that it would not have the drag of the blades or gears when trying to start it.

the easiest way would be to remove the PTO shaft from the geargov, install a double pulley in its place, then install a horizontal shaft engine with a maching pulley so that you can run a belt from one to the other, to clutch it you could use a belt tensitioner, make it loosenable so that you can loosen it when you are starting the engine.
a basic layout is below, my only question is: by the time you get an engine, the pulleys, etc, will it be cheaper to get a prebuilt one and sell this one???

I don't think 10-15 ponies will be enough... I had a 10hp 4' trail mower.. it was an absolute wuss in grass.. I sold it at a loss after batteling failed carb float needle/seat issues for three years while it was under crapsman full warranty.
