Well, I went and purchased a used Brown 472 off Craigslist Tuesday. Wife and I traveled 160 miles one way to get it. One owner with small property and low usage. Ran it today and did a great job. I been looking for a decent 5 or 6 foot rotary cutter for some time now. This one stayed on Craigslist too long for me to pass.

Looks like a solid heavy unit. If you don't mind my asking, what did you pay for it?

Thanks Coobie.

Japody the listing on Craigslist was $1250. Another unit in the Atlanta area listed one at $1500 that was not as clean. I was able to negotiate a little. Those units list for 3K with some dealers in Georgia advertising $2500 on TractorHouse. When you factor in shipping since I don't want to drive that far the delivered price to my house would be north of 3K. I was perplexed since Brown does not have dealer presence in this area but parts are not an issue. They will ship direct from the plant if you are not in a dealer supported area. I hope they stay in business. This unit was a 1 owner shipped from the factory in Feb of 06. The owner had a small acreage farm and I calculated that in the 9 years he owned it the unit had very low hours.

From what research I've been able to do - Brown is one of the best available. Yes - you did well on the price also.

I hogged with it the other day. Does really well. The gentleman selling was losing his job due to a plant closing. Felt sorry for him. Nice guy. Honest and upfront. I told my wife that was her mothers day gift. She's the best.

You did well. My next bush hog will be used. They are not real complicated, just a gear box to check out and then a visual on the deck and stuff and put it to work. I'm not kind to my bush hogs anyway so they don't look pretty for long.

Sounds like a great deal to me. The Brown 472 is a heckuva stout cutter. Just make sure that the slip clutch is adjusted properly.
