I have a Jinma 284 and today I noticed the while the tach was operating, the hour meter was not. Any suggestions.

I would check the wires on the back side. If there ok Then I would replace it .

I don't think this applies if you have the cluster gauge, but older 284s ran the hour meter off the oil pressure sending unit. Wire #27 if I recall.

I have the gauge cluster.. The thought of replacing that for a failed hour meter was none to pleasant. After being sure of the wire connections I took the cluster out & opened up the hour meter to find a plastic chip in the gears. Took out the chip & put it back ( whole project took about 3 hours... ) together & hour meter works again...

Traced the wires and found nothing out of the ordinary. But since the horn had stopped working decided to check it out. The ground wire on the horn itself was disconnected. Plugged it back in and both the horn and hour meter work. Go figure.

Look at the bright side, low engine hours means the tractor is worth more if you decide to sell it. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Joking of course...
