broke tractor

i have a 1540 mf power shuttle with about 2550 hrs,,,great tractor,,,but today i was bushhoging and the transmission locked up ,,after a few min.. it acted normal but i was taking it really slow and it did it again,,,so after a few min ..it acted normal again so this time i head for the truck and trailer..almost there and it started making noise ...clanking kinda thing,,,i get it on the trailer and head for the shop where i keep my equipment parked..the macanic said it sounded like a gear in the transmission.... can someone give me any ideas ?? and do you you know if it has a inspection plate on the transmission ??? sorry for the long post and all the questions...but i make my living with this tractor and i need to get it fixed as soon as possible thanks in advance for the help,,,bruce

The tractor will need to be split before the damage can be found.

What kind of fluid have you been putting in it? Does your mower have a shear pin with the joint not rusted together or does it have a slip clutch and has it been serviced?
