I hear you on the dtc’s man! I was actually surprised to see a generic shaped obd port under my dash. But there’s no industry standards yet, like we have for automobiles. We need to find a dealership mole to leak them for us or something.
You need to get on the right to repair push. Tractors, cell phones etc. do not have right to repair legislation in place like the autos do. If you do some searching on problems with farmers trying to get simple repairs done on their own, you will be amazed at the problems they run into on equipment that costs hundreds of thousands. Simple things like changing a sensor will require a scan tool or laptop to reset the check light and allow the equipment to function.

Yep, for sure. I work in the auto industry and follow the issue closely. I would never buy a new John Deere after all the crap they have pulled recently.

I miss the good old days. ☮️✌🏻
Me too when cars/trucks would go belly up with 100,000 miles on the OD.Changing spark plugs/points every 12,000 miles.2-4 barrel carbs instead of fuel injection.Exhausts systems shot at 40,000 miles.Wonderfull bias ply tires instead of radials. Am radio with a 8 truck tape player.By god those were the good old days.;)

Right to repair remedies will not eliminate the need for specific diagnostic equipment nor the need for diagnostic software. And most certainly these items will not be inexpensive.
