Box scraper

Can someone explain in excruciating detail what a box scraper does? I have a 100-150' driveway that needs a new bed of gravel, and I've seen a few posts around where people mention using a box scraper/grader combo unit to distribute the new bed of gravel. How would I use one to do this?

I've also seen a post where a person mentioned he scraped ground in front of his shed to prep it for a ramp. Was this done by adjusting the blade to engage the ground more aggressively?

What other uses would a box scraper have?

A box scraper accumulates dirt as it is pulled and some of this will fill in depressions as it is dragged over a rough surface, better than a straight blade which does not have the sides. Thats where the name comes from, the sides form a 'box'. You probably would get a lot more response posting in the 'attachements' rather than lawn & garden, I can't imagine anyone pulling a box blade with a lawn mower.
