Grading Box Blade

/ Box Blade #3
I have a 1510D and everyone said 4 foot. A good rule of thumb seems to be to get implements that are close to the same width of the tractor. Especially if they are heavy or ground engaging.

The contractor I bought my 2000BD from said he was getting rid of it because it couldn't do what he wanted with a 5ft blade. So I got a 4ft, and
find that it handles it really well, so well that it might handle a 5ft. He didn't have any weights or loader on it, so the front was light. I only have the loader for weight, which seems to work for the 4ft blade. Kind of close on the tire tread width for a 2000, but not worth it to trade up.
Point of my rambling is this, weight distribution is something to consider in your blade selection.

Well, I have a loader so I think I am OK on weight on the front. It seems that the wisdom is to go with a 4 ft but I would like to have the extra width of a 5 footer for the same cost. I don't really have enough experience with the tractor yet to judge the ability to use a larger implement.

Thanks

Most people will say 4'. I have a fairly heavy 5' and the 1500D+FEL seems to do rather well with it. It won't bog down until about 3/4 full depending on soil conditions and if the ground is level. When I was dehumping my road I had it over filling going down a gentle slope. If you are trying to smooth out some rough ground it is nice to have your tires covered, so when you hit the same area a second time your wheels are on more level ground. I guess it depends on what you are going to do. If you are going to move mountains then get a 4' if you are just trying to smooth out some shallow dimples and want more coverage area per pass get a fiver...
