Have kobota l3301. Need to purchase box blade. 60 or 72" wide. Have r4 tires . Which one would work best?

Personnally, with a +30 HP tractor and ~55 in width, I would not go any less than 6'. I have the L4330 (+40 hp) with a +675 lb 6' BB and I wish I had a 7 footer.

Go big, you can always slow down or dig less, but you can't make a 5' a 6'.

Good luck.

I'd say that the size depends on your ground and what you plan to do with the box blade. We need some more information here. Is the ground rocky? Clay, sand, or loam? Are you going to scarify or spread gravel? How uneven is your land? Rutted? Grassy? Any shrubs? What plans?

BTW, In snow, a box works better pushing backwards than forwards. You'll use it that way more than you think in dirt too, so make sure that the cutting edge will reverse so that it cuts agressively when pushing in reverse....some advertisements are misleading and use "reversible" to mean the cutting edge that is bolted on has a second cutting edge available by unbolting and flipping the edge when the first edge dulls. That's something most of us probably never will do, but it's an inexpensive option on most cutting edges - On the other hand, when the back of the box has a blade that cuts forwards as well as in reverse is a wonderful thing to have.....but more rarely found. Often that requires a flip-down cutting edge mounted backwards

On tires, I've run turfs, lugs, and R4s. I prefer the R4s....when new they are almost as good as lugs, but R4s lose their newness fairly quickly and become more like a lugged turf tire.
Enjoy!

I have a 60" box on my L3200 (nearly identical to your 3301). It's a good size, but will really drag on the tractor when it fills up with material. I think you could go bigger if it was an L3800/3901, but on the L2501/L3200/L3301, I would not go bigger than 60", especially if you plan to do aggressive work or move heavy material around.

If I was going to buy a new box scraper for an open station tractor, I'd go with a roll over box scraper like the one recommended by MtnViewRanch. For the L3301, my width would be 5', that's what we've used on our similarly sized tractors.

As mentioned, you can use a 6' by adjusting your depth etc., I like to be able to cover my tractor's tire width, so if I had to go 6', I would, 5' just works best for us.

If 60" is a little too small and 72" is a little too large, let me introduce you to goldilocks:
66" EA Compact Box Blade

That is, unless you can handle the $2k investment MtnView is famous for recommending.

"Have kobota l3301. Need to purchase box blade. 60 or 72" wide. Have r4 tires . Which one would work best?" I saw no mention of price consideration.

I have found there is a reason for the saying, "You get what you pay for."

I paid close to $4000 for mine and it's well worth it to me.

Some people can justify it, some can't. I talk to TONS of people. Many are brand new tractor owners.

The majority of customers with a new 33hp tractor would rather have a new box blade, scrape blade and landscape rake rather than investing the full amount into one attachment such as an expensive box blade.

Yep I agree Travis. That's why I can't justify paying your new price when I can buy used, get more equipment and have money left.

Yep, but if the production of new equipment ceased, used equipment wouldn't be cheaper would it?

Travis, do you understand the reasoning for recommending a ROBB instead of a box blade such as the ETA unit you have recommended?

As long as the profit margins stays where they are at that's not happening. :)

I guess I should expand a little. If money is available, buy the best you can afford. A ROBB or at a minimum a hydraulic scarifier BB. If money is controlling the purchase, then look for used which will net you the most equipment for the dollar spent.

Not picking on anybody. :)

Totally. I'm just saying that the percentage of customers looking to spend big money for box blades and scrape blades is not very high. The percentage is even lower for those with compact tractors.

I have a L2800 and run a 6 footer. If I use it aggressively, I might be able to stop the tractor but I just raise it a tick and keep moving that load. I got it for $250 (used) and have about 300 pounds sitting on top of it. I also have R4 and would not want to go any smaller.

I understand you get what you pay for, but at some point you have to rationalize it too. Even if you are well off, does it make sense to spend a lot of money on something, just cause you can? Especially when it is a hobby for most of us. For the pros, it eats into their profits.

I think I'm thrifty and spend money on tractor stuff wisely.......

My Wife thinks I have too much tractor stuff........
