The leaves are falling so much that we had over 4 inches of leaves to take care of. I put on my snow blade (rubber edge) and pushed the leaves into large piles. Then we used a large canvas to rake the leaves into and lifted with the boom pole and transported to the burn pit. The pictures you see are what was left on the lawn which we raked up into smaller piles and transported to the burn pit. Forgot to get pictures of the snow blade pushing the leaves into large pile.
The boom pole really worked great.

Please do not post any more pictures of Bozeman. I was raised outside of Cody, Wyoming, and went to college in Bozeman. My parents informed me this weekend they are selling the family farm and moving closer to our house in Washington and my sister in Oregon. I nearly cried, and then struggled to find money in my checking account just to buy the house from them.

Bozeman has changed a lot since 90... But still one of my most favorite towns in the USA...

Great idea, and good job. Our leave battle begins today and goes on for at least the next 4 weeks. Even though I don't have my PT this time around to help me, I still have 3 very capable garden tractors. ;)

I have contemplating getting one of these. I have two acres of live oaks that rain leaves. I have a vacuum system on the back of my Dixie Chopper, that will fill up a container in about 10 minutes. and it is getting old and worn out. The Cyclone impeller flexes when it hits something, whereas, the steel impeller will bend, and sand just eats away at the steel, rendering it useless after one season.

I started my leaf round up yesterday but take the lazy man's approach...a few passes with the finish mower does it for me. Yard does not look "pretty" for a week or so but once they decompose it seems to help the grass and soil.

Your correct about BZN changing in the last 20 years. Population of the Gallatin Valley is over 80,000. On the good side I don't have to drive to Billings or Spokane to get good deals on construction equipment.

See, that's why I like the PT...find a use for it to do anything!

Anybody know how long that boom is from the QA plate? I have some
left over tubing from my QA Hitch project...I see a boom in my future!

Yep, I'm that cheap to make my own. Between purchasing the PT and paying for this house we're currently building..."I've got myself so broke, I couldn't get out of sight if it took a quarter to go around the world". :D
(Guess what movie that line is from...)

Love using the PT to grade the driveway every few days...the guys on the site really like it!

Great idea. We have it easy. Our property is more or less a on a peninsula and the prevailing wind is strong. If we mulch them with the lawn mower and cut the grass real short the wind blows the rest of the leaves away.

I saw him at Warner B's the other day, walking with Quentin Tarrantino. Truly a match I would have never made... But I do love star sightings....

Yeah, that does seem an odd pairing, especially after some of the interviews I've seen with Q.T.

Red,
What are you using to grade the driveway?
How long is the drive?
Do you have any pics?

I usually use the Steiner with it's optional blower to blow all my leaves over into the ditch, and mother nature takes care of them from there. My Mother in Law has a lot of pines, and the straw takes a little more time, but it is do-able. If I get too many leaves, I blow them into a pile and scoop them up into the back of the truck, or on a trailer and haul them off. There has to be a pretty big pile to make me want to get off the Steiner and use my hands!

Must be cool seeing the big names like that.

Ok, We kept everyboyd in suspense: The line is from Heartbreak Ridge....Clint Eastwood.

Hey, Idabe: I'm using a small excavating bucket of my own design. I also use the LMB. Turn them downward, put in float, and the bottom edge drags along the gravel. It's not as efficient as a box blade but holding my own with it.

The drive is 600+ ft. Luckily its staying in decent shape except for the 30ft where it slopes upward to meet the asphalt road. The trucks stop here to check traffic then end up spinning tires trying to get moving again.

Perhaps this belongs in a new thread, but...enquiring minds would like to know, how are you doing your road work?
With the LMB are going forward or backwards, and
How is your bucket positioned? i.e.
bottom vertical,
45 degrees away from the direction of travel,
5 degrees above the road, with the lip dragging or,
parallel to the road (into? away?)

Do you do anything to pack the loose material back into the road?

Do you do anything to create/maintain the crown?

Any and all tips welcome to improve my road maintenance techniques!

Thanks in advance,

Peter

Sorry for late response....

I turn the buckets so the edge drags (placed in float) and then back up/pull gravel from high spots to low. The area of my drive way needing most attention has 1-2" size stone.
