Bill- What's the top 'bar' made from? I'm guessing 1-1/2x3"x1/4 rect? And where did you get your weld-on hooks? Thanks! ~Scotty

Once I welded a hitch receiver on my FEL bucket, I never used the 3 pt. hitch to ever move a trailer. I'm sure you'll find your setup very useful. Great job!

If I bought I new tractor tomorrow, this is the first thing I would "add". If you move trailers around, this concept is a must have. I don't even bother flipping the double ball anymore ... I simply pick up every trailer with the 1 7/8 ball (unless I expect to have negative tongue weight)

Simply concept but VERY useful ....

Hi Scotty,

The steel tubing is 1.5" x 3" x 3/16 wall. This gives me a very stiff bucket support and good welding base.

I got the 5/16" weld on hooks off ebay but they are also usually at tractor dealers. Google "weld on chain hook" and they should pop up.

As BX mentions this is a very handy add on... I am using a drop insert in mine to move trailers around and plan to build a boom lift for another project.

I'll have to go along with you on that. My trailers are either 2" or 2 5/16" but I just leave the 2" ball side up. Outside I use the hitch on my FEL. Inside I use a hitch I made that clamps on one fork of my forklift. I didn't like the idea of burning a hole in the end of the fork so I made me a quick attach setup that works great. Even though I mostly move GN trailers with it, I only made the attachment with a 2" ball. I don't know how much tongue weight my GN trailers have empty, but two people can't pick up the nose. It sure makes life so much easier when parking the trailers in the corner of the barn or close to something!

Thanks guys, I'm eager to build a pole boom as well. In fact I was just looking at other posts to get some ideas.

Welcome to TBN!

You did a nice clean job!

I just bolted my hitch on the top of my bucket.

I also built this boom-pole to use when I put up rafters and it's very handy for that.... Mine is 10ft. long and the reason I built it that long was for rafters.... I have used it for other jobs also.

Mine is made out of pipe, and I put a smaller pipe inside the full length of the larger pipe to make it stronger... I also put a short piece of exhaust pipe on the end to make it fit tighter in the hitch, and I used a hammer on the exhaust pipe to make it square.

I like the pole. The only problem I have had with using pipe in this manor is how easily it bends. Add some pieces (in red in the image) to keep it from bending and from swaying from side to side. I am sure yours works great, but when ever I build something like this, I always push it harder than I probably should. Nice job on your project!

Yea that would make it a lot stronger.... I'll do that when I get time.

I also work something harder that I build... It did have a plate on the bottom that set on the bucket, but I already tore that off.

When I first made it I only had one piece of pipe.. I used it and it would bend some so I put another piece of pipe inside... I had to use a sledge hammer to get it in.. It weighs about 70lbs.

It likes about a 1/2-inch being a solid piece.... But it will still bend some, and when I use it I put ratchet straps on the pipe & go behind the bucket.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Ditto to BX24! 1/2" rebar would do, I believe. But I'd use a couple 1/4" plate triangles, at the top, welded on either side of the pipe, and canted toward the center for the tension 'peak'. Definately need something on the bottom as he said, to keep it from 'kickin' out either side. I like it!

hi, what do you use the extension pole for? Thanks, jack

Won't that shiny paint get all scuffed when you slide a receiver into it?

;-))
