Block Heater on 790

My 790 since new (2007) will not start w/o intake heat or the block heater. Because of this I usually keep my block heater plugged in. I tried to put it on a timer but it heats so slow that it was never ready when I needed it. We had 7 of snow last night so I went to start it and had to use the intake heat. Found out my block heater is blowing a breaker whenever I plug it in. Does anyone know if I have to drain the water to put the new one in? Don't know what one costs but If this is going to be a yearly thing I will just have to use the intake heat and hope that lasts more than a year.

It is possible to replace the block heater without draining the anti freeze. You will loose some anti freeze in the process,just depends how fast you are at getting the old on out and then starting the new one in. You might want to try and pull a vacuum at the radiator cap with a shop vac to minimize the loss.
