I've never heard of this before. I wonder what the results would be from a rifled shotgun barrel? Either way, pushing the plastic hull through the forcing cone can't be a good idea.

See something different all the time? I believe it would be safe enough if cut like the video. You are making a saboted power piston shell as fired here...recoil the same. I wonder how it would do on door hinges? maybe same type cut on buckshot load?

I don't know .. that is interesting though...I sure would like to know if it is really safe since if it ever happened that you could not buy slugs it would be nice to know this is safe since I have a lot of shot shells...A little scary though screwing around with a shell like that ..the posts after the video go both ways so how do ya know ?

I can try it. I have some older plastic shells 00-buck. I have a short pump gun with choke removed..

Did you notice the cut he made in the shell was not complete..in other words the cut was not joined..there was about 1/8 of and inch of plastic not yet cut sot he whole cut did not come together...be careful....I wonder if that makes a difference..?

That's to hold it all together so the wad doesn't pull out of the base of the shell until fired. It's an old practice like they said. It could be a lot of stress shooting it through a Full choke barrel and I would never have shot it through a double barrel for fear of separating the barrels.
Also not it could be illegal to have one of those shells loaded in a gun while deer hunting since it does not meet the "single projectile" requirement in some states.

I liked the wax shells. I really have my doubts about shoving the casing through the forcing cone right in front of the chamber. The plastic might compress OK, but there is a real danger of overpressure.

If you have more money to spend, you can buy all sorts of specialty shotgun shells at

I am thinking the same thing, the wax "slugs" would probably be fairly safe, but the wad pressure on the powder charge would have changed due to it "springing" up a little after the crimp was removed. This would probably lower chamber pressure. But the cut shells. No thank you, sure you might get away with it with a cylinder bore, or maybe even a modified, choke, but I dont like the idea of it at all, I bet there is some BIG pressure spikes with that idea. Poor people have poor ways, but they might also not have all their fingers. I think the best thing to do is buy some slugs, I mean how many do you really need to get a deer? The wax "slugs" are not a bad thing to know in a pinch, but I think I will stick to some nice factory slugs. YMMV

TOO DANGEROUS YOU MAY HAVE A LIFE CHANGING EVENT. Many people in the past have had serious injury doing what has been preposed.

Another twist on the old turkey shoot trick with paper Federal shells. I would not recommend it though.
