Birdshot into a makeshift slug by cutting the hull? Video

Having done this in the past.. (having scored the shell around the wad and firing it through a straight tube barrel) I can say it's not harmful in my experience. That's not to say the next one wouldn't have blown the barrel off the shotgun, but it didn't do any harm that we could see, other than a hel* of an ugly hole in whatever we shot at.

I wouldn't recommend it for hunting anything, but it makes a nice "demolition round".

The straight tube barrel was a Winchester 37 single shot sawed off to 24 inches. Makes a deadly bird/rabbit gun. I still have it.

Another twist on the old turkey shoot trick with paper Federal shells.

Most turkey Shoots I been to in the last 10 years havd always required the participants to use the same shells, theirs.

He does not create an obstruction or add powder to the load. It just separates in a different location than the manufacture design.....and has a bit more mass (parts of the hull and wad) going through the tube and down range. Being these are low-dram loads.....there should be no worries.

Pretty slick if you unexpectedly run into a herd of bears while dove hunting?

Lighten up......Have a little fun. :thumbsup::D

When you cut a high brass max power shell and it missfires but plugs the barrel and you think your barrel is clear. What do you think happens with your next "special" shot.

In a pinch it works. But, doing that makes it awful hard to reload the hull.

It just separates in a different location than the manufacture design....

Shotgun shells, as designed, don't "seperate" at all

The end opens and fills the chamber and the SMALLER wad and shot charge enters the forcing cone and barrel

By cutting the shell you're causing the entire hull to enter the barrel, which is simply a stupid thing to do.

If someone does this and still has fingers and thumbs left afterwards please give us an update. Video would be even better!!!

Personally, I would never try it. The hull OD is bigger than the barrel ID and
I am no ID 10 T!

I dont see any danger at all in the actual shot.

Where I potenially see danger is IF part of the hull become entrapped in the barrel, and fireing another shot without checking:confused2:

But I see no real danger, Yes the hull is larger than the barrel. And IF it lodges, the grimp will simply open up and the wad/sho will fly out:thumbsup:

I wouldnt have any hesitations about trying it, but I would want to make sure the barrel is clear before each additional shot.

First.....note that the instructions call for lightweight loads - not high-brass, max-power loads. And....the video shows #8 shot. I suppose the smaller shot more easily compresses to fit the hull through the bore? Next......I don't think if you are trying this stunt you are going to be running multiple loads of these shells down your bore.

One would normally check after firing such a load.....at least I would. If such a load were to "misfire"....and you fired another round.....you could have troubles....just like you would with a normal load.

Personally.....I don't see a need to try this "stunt"....but I see little harm if done correctly. Don't mix your apples with the oranges.....and you gotta pay attention to the details. ;)

.and you gotta pay attention to the details.

Foggy...that is so true in this case especially but also in all parts of our lives...the Devil hides there...Right ?
