I finally got around to widening the tires from 74" to 86" and filled the rear tires with water and one gallon of anti freeze to each. The stability is noticeably better. It's quite the project to move these big tires and wheels.

What's your reasoning for only one gal of antifreeze per tire? Do you know the freeze point of the mixture? Thanks,Jim

We are in S La and freezing temps are rare so one gallon per tire will get me plenty below the freeze temp and also prevent corrosion to the steel wheels

How did you determine that a gallon of antifreeze will keep water from freezing when mixed with 73 gallons of water?

Not certain the 1 gallon is going much for freeze protection. Here's a chart for the OP to reference to see if he feels comfortable with his ratio.

Granted AF solution can get slushie without harm to tire but will 1 gallon of AF accomplish this in 70+ gallons of water at say 15 degrees F?

The OP said he lived in South Louisiana, so rarely will it get below 40F in winter. In the rare instance of below freezing weather, it would only last a day or so and then warm back up. I would say the average temps there is above 50F most of the winter. I grew up in North Louisiana and we used pure water for ballast. The occasional freeze would only last a day or 2 and if the tires got frozen a bit, we just let the sun thaw it out. NO snow to move and usually nothing pressing to do when it was below freezing so we just wait till it is nice outside to do any winter work.

I knew PO lived in S Cajun country but then why put one gallon of AF in the tires?? Back when I used my JD 4255 for plowing I put straight H2O in the tires BUT if below freezing my tractor stayed parked in barn and I didn't move it. Normally it doesn't snow in the Southern states BUT it has this year. If a tire freezes it takes a while for it to completely thaw. Maybe Oiltech will have no snow to move but he might have animals to feed.

Neither work or animals, mainly it was to treat the water, freezing is not a concern
