Re: Big Barn痴 Retirement Farm Shop

Very interesting thread I just discovered (well, it was quite a few hours ago by now!).

I noticed earlier that there was a call for woodshop pics, so here are some of mine:

Overview of main shop:

Double surface planer:

Some of our organizational and efficiency setups.

We use the 3M PPS system for our gravity feed spray guns.

Carts and clamps must be accessible:

That 400 gallon air tank allowed us to hold off buying the second Kaeser rotary screw compressor for about 5 years. Refrigerated air dryer is a must!

We do our best to label and segregate everything. Moulding, spline stock for making frames and tooling for the moulders.

Our gang ripsaw has a free-form blade positioning system - the spindle is hollow and has hydraulic oil in it with a big nut at the end. You slide the blades to where you want them and when you tighten the nut, the keyways press outward and lock the blades into position. We have spacers for all the common moulding sizes, and since it's laser guided we also have heavy paper printed with lines at the corresponding dimensions:

dnw64, that's gotta be the largest stockpile of clear lumber I've ever seen. :) Would you mind listing a few species?

Thanks for the shop tour! :drink:

btw, who among us besides Richard and myself plan to still be at it until we're 90?.

The last 20yrs went too fast for me. I guess I can hang for another 20, but ...

My Mom did 94. I told her a couple months before she died that I was gonna match or beat her. :)

It’s my opinion unless you are a millionaire it is impossible to do things in the proper order when building a new forever house.

Things change. Needs/wants, interests, ideas and finances to name a few off the top of my head.

I like to think that I planned for change.

Astute observations 🤙

My daughter just turned 19 and that is EXACTLY how I feel!

I think you, Richard and I are the same age. I’ll do another 20 year stretch with you two and anyone else who wants to join us.

I'm a few months shy of 60... can I join in and lobby for 25 instead?

Young ‘uns buy the beer.
