My neighbor has an 8' Ponderosa Pine that I can have. I want to transplant it but am afraid I'll kill it. Next Spring I'll try your idea. Looks very time consuming and labor intensive. But I guess not nearly as time consuming as growing an 8' Ponderosa from a seed!!!!

Sure thing. Its not that bad as far as time roughly 4 hr per tree I have about a dozen I'm doing . Good luck !
