OK this may be a dumb question, but what is the best/safest way to stoe the BH when off the tractor?
A: Leave it on the stabilizers and bucket and hope the clylinders dont leak down
or
B: Before disconnecting the hoses pull the tractor ahead a few inches and put blocking under the BH frame with the stabilizers up.
I'll be storing it in the barn with other equipment and dont want it to fall over on other stuff or me.

In my humble opinion.
Option B with a little mod -
If you have a boom locking pin - install it.
Blocking under the center then raise the stabilizers just enough so the blocking is supporting all the weight and is stable. Place some blocking or pallets under the bucket.
If you have a beam overhead chain or strap the boom / dipper elbow to the overhead beam for extra peace of mind.

Actually, I use option C:

Before disconnecting the hoses pull the tractor ahead a few inches and put blocking under the BH frame with the stabilizers down and the bucket partially extended. The stabs and bucket give "stability", while most of the weight is on the frame.

I'm with grandad on this. I think you want the stabilizers down not only for stability, but also because if they are not down, they will leak down over time, and may come down on something easily damaged. If you are going to leave them up, tie them up.

Thanks for the good suggestions, I do think the blocking under the frame is the best way to go for solid support.
I think having it off for a day or two wouldnt be much of a problem on stabilizers alone, but over a few weeks I will block it.

Make thee a backhoe dolly.

Blocking can be trick: once the hydraulics bleed down, these babies can become very unstable.

It it can fit on a Kubota B7500, the BEST place to store your backhoe would be at my house /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I store mine with stabilizers up (strapped together so they won't drift down) with the back hoe frame (roughly under the arm pivot point) on a dolly and another dolly under the bucket. So, I can carefully move it around.

Mine is a 3PH backhoe.

I use jackstands under the points where the lower arms usually connect, putting pins through the holes in the backhoe frame.

The bucket is on the ground, or the floor of my shed during winter. The stabilizers are up and tied together to keep them in place.

Works for me. A dolly would be great, but the dirt floor in my shed is not the real even.

The only problem with doing it this way is the hoe is going to sit where you put it until you put it back on the tractor. This has never been an issue for me.

i would say a nice FLAT& hard space makes it much easyer to line up. my old tractors bh was always outside on uneven ground and it was a huge pain in the### and that was with 6ft of hyd hose to help line it up . you have the pto pump and it gives you only gives you 6inch to 1 foot to play with. mines not coming off till i have a much better
way to reinstall it. 1500 lbs is to much to mess around with j

The Best way to store backhoe is a personal opinion at best.

What's best for me, may not work for you at all.

I have a tendency to over-plan and in many cases over-build.

This is the way that we store ours
Hello Dolly!

See if it works for your needs.

Thanks PineRidge for sharing those dolly plans. That will be a project that I will need to do!
But right now I have a dirt floor like Henro does and untill I can get it concreted the dolly will have to wait.
PineRidge, there is never a problem over building only underbuilding causes problems.
I too always like to go heavy duty if at all possible with any thing I build or buy.

Willman glad to help!

Feel free to change the plans as you see fit to suit your needs.

If you do make your own dolly remember pictures posted at the TBN site are mandatory. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Your absolutely right. Everyone has their own situation to deal with; i.e. concrete, gravel, in/outside etc..
