Just acquired a like-new LandPride SB1051 3 point rear snowblower. The PTO shaft that came with it is too short. Where is the best place to get a cost-effective replacement shaft??

It must have a shear pin or slip clutch since this is going on my 2210. I'm measuring 26" between the end of the two splined shafts.

Tractor supply or Agri supply? I've found Agrisupply has better prices, but not sure how shipping would factor in GA to NH. Both do online orders

A&I. Your local tractor dealer is probably an A&I dealer.
Don't buy anything less than a Series IV shaft and make sure it has a shearbolt flange arrangement comparable to the OEM shaft.

Question: I need to buy a new driveshaft to fit my new larger tractor. What is the correct way to size a driveshaft to a tractor/implement combination?

I figured out that I could purchase a new longer series 4 internal trilobe tube from AgriSupply. Popped out the roll pin that holds the inner tube into the U joint. Took apart the U-joint and now have to get the tube pressed out.

Edit: I posted this before I noticed the suggestions above to do just this! Thanks to those guys with that suggestion!!!!

Edit again: I was able to bang out the tube with a BFH and a deep socket as a punch.

@jyoutz : I'm learning this myself. You need to measure the size of the sliding tubes that form the shaft. That will tell you what series this is. I just know that inner sliding tube of the series 4, which I have, has an OD of 36 mm.

This is from the AgriSupply site:
  • Width: 36 mm or 1-27/64 in.
  • Thickness: 4.5 mm

Here's the prize. I'm loving the way this thing is built. I considered shortening the 3 PT mount, but chose against modifying it.

The PTO shaft is indeed dangerously short!

My driveline is old and I just plan to replace it and slip clutch, so I don’t need to match anything. I’m just wondering how to measure for length and overlap of the new driveline.

Go to your tractor dealer, they will match and you can buy replacement tubes for your PTO pretty cheap. Cheaper than buying a whole new PTO.

I don’t really want to haul tractor and implement to town and the old pto tubing is beat. I just want a new tune and slip clutch. I just want to know how to measure length and how much overlap. I can buy the whole setup at Tractor Supply locally instead of driving hours to the dealer.

He meant for you to remove the shaft from the implement and take it to the dealer where they could match the tubing and take care of the tube replacement if you wished. Overlap is typically recommended to be a minimum of 6" throughout the normal range of motion for the shaft.

My question is somewhat different. I don’t intend to match the tubing. I want an entire new PTO shaft and slip clutch. I just want to know how to measure the length. I’m assuming distance from pto to implement yolk, both with it raised all the way and lowered fully, plus overlap. I’m assuming overlap at full extension? Am I correct?

The first link goes to the index page of A&I's selection of generic shafts with clutches. The second goes to a choice I made of one of those offerings. That shows the details of that particular shaft with a collapsed length, maximum safe length, configurations of the implement end and tractor end yokes and other info.
An understanding of what you need and careful selection should get you what you seek.

Thanks for the link and information

If the shaft is short, just buy this PTO extender... it adds 4"

My pto shaft and connectors are beat up. I want to replace.

OR, buy some of the proper tubing, and lengthen the shaft that you already have...

This is a good idea but have a dealer do it for you. Lots of work if you don't know the ropes.

You'll spend almost as much as buying a new complete PTO shaft from a Rural King or Sloan Express in either Il or IN. I buy PTO stuff from them for good price.

Especially if you have to buy the tubing in full lengths.

Those things are a terrible crutch.

There are videos on-line on how to measure and cut a pto shaft for correct overlap. Do not do this yourself unless you have someone with you that does or you will almost certainly get it wrong. You need a chop saw to get the cuts straight. A sawmill will give an unsatisfactory crooked cut.
