I bent these things (#3 in the diagram) and I'm wondering if there is an upgrade available for them that might be stronger or easier to adjust before I replaced them with the same thing. I seem to remember there being a better system available than the eyebolts into the turnbuckle arrangement on the 990.

My local tractor store has several different sizes of the items you need. If you have one nearby check there first. Maybe your dealer has something more HD for a larger tractor that will fit. Is it possible you had them too tight when you raised the 3 pt. On mine the tension of the sway bar tensioners changes as I lift (gets tighter). I now adjust the tension with my 3 pt. all the way up.
Good idea on checking the links at different heights to make sure they aren't too tight, though I bent mine the opposite way. Too much slack and a pushing a heavy 72" snowblower backwards through a bunch of snow -> bent links -> even more slack -> even more bent links. I think if I took out most of the play they wouldn't have bent in the first place.
By the way, the JD part to replace just the upper part of that (basically nothing but an eyebolt with a dohicky threaded through the loop) is priced at the totally insane price of $42 a piece. I will definitely have to find a non-OEM replacement for this.
