I have a 60" on my BX that is 9 gauge steel. I think it is meant to do finish mowing but I think it could do very tall strawlike grass. I plan to mow without worry and buy new blades every year. (fall has alot of sticks and leaves to crunch, spring only soft grass)

Mowers = grass/lash. Brush = rotary cutter (aka bush hog).

You can cut tall grass but cut it at the least twice, once with the deck high then work to desired height. I suggest if it's lots of cutting of taller grass/weeds using a rotary cutter and then you don't worry about tiny trees/bushes.

I purchased a 84" Woods 3 pt. with my 3010 that works well in tall grasses. It my take longer to accomplish your task in the tall grass but once done you can maintain the finish cut easily I would think. I guess it depends on what type of cut you are satisfied with and how often you are going to cut but for my $ I would buy a good 3 pt. finish mower and maintain the cutting into the future.

I have used my 72" belly mower to cut very tall grasses, 4' plus and it took 2 passes but looked great when finished. As to brush it simply depends on how thick the brush is. I have cut thin brush up to 1/2" without doing anything special and had excellent results in single pass. I have used the loader bucket to cause brush up to 1" to lean over and then mowed it with 2 passes and have generally decided that my proven method of pushing these out with loader or pulling with chain is better. This 1" brush has also been thin brush not solid bush after bush.

In short for ocasional brush or for light brush the kubota 72" mmm on the 3010 does fine, for anything else go to a rotary cutter or permanently pull it.

I do sharpen my blades (twice this year already) and will probably replace every year or two. Blades seem to be the one part that Kubota has reasonably price.
