Haircut to go with the barber chair?

Chain above the cut prevents that on species that like to do it. Little hard to see how deep that wedge was actually cut...
I kinda looks like they didn't get the wedge cut, just started, im guessing and the tree settled onto it, before they could complete the wedge or maybe they did it backward, with the wedge cut being second?

Myself, I am guessing the person didn't cut the wedge deep enough, they also obviously didn't take the back cut far enough.

Likely the tree started to barber chair and instead of chaining it, they decided to use the tractor since they figured it was safer.

I am guessing all that based on the lack of wedges in the picture and the depth of the back cut.

More than one poor choice happened to create this situation.

But one very good choice.

Looks like there is a full coverage absorbent cover spread over the seat.

Quick google took me to ODWTM, some actual video of the recovery in there at about 6 min mark.

Thanks for that.

The original photo was not clear as to how this could happen, but the video shows the larger tree barber chaired and caught the loader bucket, and lifted the tractor up off the ground. Actually a believable event.

At first look my mind said PHOTOSHOP FOR SURE...but now I do not think that is the case...after viewing the last bit of the posted video link.

Looks like there's no discernable undercut/notch - looks like there was the first upper cut of a conventional but no bottom on the left side, and then a back cut on the right; in he comes with the tractor to give it a shove, and the tree shoved back.

Without a notch, the tree couldn't rotate on the hinge; and then with the tractor pushing from up above, he got what was coming.

That's an old pic for sure. Either way learning proper tree hinging techniques should be done. It looks like they cut the hinge on the wrong side of the tree for starters.

If I really need a tree to go a specific way I always put a rope in it. Taking 15min to put a rope in it and attaching a comealong is far quicker and safer than dropping a tree on something.

I've never had to use ANYTHING to push any of my pines over. Even with my M6040 - I never get within the range of a falling pine. Too much can go wrong. In my case - the wind. When I fall one of my ancient Ponderosa pines and see a limb driven six or more feet into the ground - it leaves a permanent impression.

Sounds like you know how to use your felling sights.

Maybe a little of that - CausticUrbanCoast. But my 80 acres is all Ponderosa pine. Nothing like the growth( jungle ) I see in the pics others post. Loooong ago, when I cut my pines for firewood, I had one gigantic pine - kick back. Barber chair - ?? I was at quite a distance when it fell. Had I been behind the cut - I'd have been sliced in half. I was falling pines - 32" to 40" on the butt.

I soon learned that the really big pines were just too much of a PITA to be falling for firewood. Required too much planning in the falling and the rounds, cut to 16" long, were a real ***** to get up on the splitter and split. I had the property selectively logged and I went with the pines - 20" or less for firewood.
