BCS 852 - Snowblower Troubles

If you are using the BCS supplied shear bolts, replace them with the roll pins used previously. The are part number 342.11102. They sell for $1.25. If you are breaking the roll pins you are likely catching too many rocks. The roll pins were used for over 25 year with the same gears and turbines (BCS name for auger/impeller) with little gear damage. I supply every new snow thrower with 2 of these roll pins in addition to the factory supplies shear pins (bolts).

Are the 342.11102 roll pins stronger or weaker than the the factory supplied shear bolts?

Don't use the roll pins, you will demolish your augers, I've seen it on used machines i shopped for before I bought new.

Earthtools sells bolts that fit, that are stronger than the factory shear pins but will still give way (unlike the roll pins).

I haven't used them yet, but i ordered a few when I bought my snowblower back in November, Joel said that they were a comfortable middle ground between the roll pins and the new shear bolts.
