Yeah, my walmart "maintenance-free" lead acid battery slopped and sloshed acid all over the nose of my tractor.

Maintenance free is still vented it just means you can't add makeup water. I can run my AGM battery upside down and no acid will leak out and corrode the metal.

supposedly AGM ( sealed) batteries hold a charge longer ie.. the self discharge rate is slower.
This is the 'claim to fame' for Odyssey. My experience is the same as bx23barry, i.e., they work very well in vehicles, like my tractor, that are not used much. Obviously, your experience with Odyssey batteries is different.

Highbeam, I agree completely about the AGM battery. I think there is actually a savings by buying the Optima or Odyssey batteries that has not been mentioned. A cheap or expensive battery that does what is shown in my attachment is NOT a bargain. I spent most of one whole day and lots of money repairing the damage done by an OEM battery that was still working fine. It just had a nasty habit of leaking vapors. It was also directly under a hood vent so that any rain washed acid right down onto the shelf. The Optima cured this problem.

actually a true maintnence free battery is designed with to minimize the loss of electrolyte thru the vent, aka the Delco Freedom.

many batteries that are termed maintnence free would actually fall into a category better termed "low maintenance".

I dont have anything against the odysee other than 2 people I know who bought em were not pleased with the result. that doesn't mean they are crap, just that I know two people who didn't have a good experience with them.

I've also know one person who managed to blow up a sealed battery because he left it on a charger way too long. His problem was that he didn't realize that those type of batteries take more attention if you want to charge one.
