Battery light stays on

/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gifMy idiot battery light dosn't know how to turn it self off. The battery seems to be charging but the light just continues to stay lit. Does anyone have any thoughts on why and or how to fix this? I do at some time plan to add gauges and would like to keep the idiot lights as backup. thanks for the help

What model is it? If it has a battery water level light that has a US battery that will cause it. If it is a model like a YM1610 that has a holding relay, that is out, that could cause it another way.

I have a 2210bd it has an alternator and I was told a heavy duty one at that. I have cleaned the contacts where the wires connect to no avail. Any ideas?

Are these wires connected to each other? If these are the wires that run to the battery to guage fluid level, and you don't have an original Japanese battery, they should be shorted together to turn the light off.

The 2210 has a holding relay inside the current limiter. It may be bad but the charging circuit is still working. A new current limiter will probably fix it.

Is it the charging light that is on or the battery fluid level indicator light? What does the symbol look like that is lit up?

/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gifThank you all for your input. A day seldom goes by without learning something! The light that was staying on was the battery light. And with all of your help I have learned that this light when on, indicates that the battery is low on fluid. That is if you have a Japanese battery hooked up to it. I have shorted the wires together and that is the end of that annoying light problem. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you...

Glad to hear that it was just the level indicator lamp! Exide & Interstate each sell replacement batteries with
the "level sensor" built into there respective batteries. Now that you have by-passed that function remember to check the Fluid level every so often. This does open up the possibility of using the circuit for something else, humm?
