Morning Guys,

I was just browsing one of the other forums, and I saw something I had never seen before. Under a user name, where the post count usually appears, there was the word "banned".

I assume that the user must have posted something so egregious that he has been banned from posting on the forum. First, is this a correct assumption? Second, if it is correct, what rises to the leval of being banned? I've read and participated in some pretty heated discussions where I have personally felt that some people had crossed the line away from the normally civil and intelligent posts typical of TBN, but I've never seen anyone "banned' before.

I checked the FAQ to see if it would shed any light, but I didn't see anything specifically dealing with this. So, what's the deal? Any hard and fast rules that will cause this, or is it a case by case decision made by the moderators?

Thanks.

I'm guessing you are correct. Most folks won't cross "the line" of good behaviour and if they do it's probably a mistake or misunderstanding. There are a very few who don't understand polite discussion or polite disagreement. They may make a technical discussion into a personal attack, use foul language or other disagreable things. But most of them will come back to when nudged.

This is a good forum and is moderated by some very fair minded people with lots of experience. If there is a person banned, it wasn't for a trivial reason.

That's just my opinion, freely given and worth every cent.

Yes, you were correct in your assumption. In addition to the FAQ all members should read the Terms of Service. Everyone should also keep in mind the fact that Tractorbynet is a family friendly website. We really do hate to ban anyone, and it's usually only done after repeated requests to cease whatever activity was a violation. When it becomes necessary to ban a member, it may be a temporary ban for a specific length of time, or it can be permanent. The moderators and/or administrators have the ability to ban someone and also the ability to remove the ban.

If you don't ever post anything you wouldn't say in front of small children and women in church, you're not likely to have to worry about getting banned.:D

Thanks Bird, I'd hoped you'd weigh in on the subject! I know you're a moderator, and I've always used your posts here as the benchmark of civility. Not polishing any apples, but just my opinion.

LB, JD Owning/Operating. I'll leave it at that.

As far as the admonition about what you'd say in front of little kids...when we lived in mid-town Atlanta, our neighbor had (has) three little kids, the oldest of which was about 7-8 at the time. One Saturday while I was working in our garden I heard him coming back from getting the mail and he said to someone loud enough for me to hear, 'that *********** didn't bring it!' I almost wet myself laughing!

City folk, whadda you gonna do?

Bird,

Just read the 'Terms of Service'. That's exactly what I was looking for in the FAQ. Concise and well written. My only gripe is that once I'd like to see one of these things say at the bottom, 'ACT YOUR AGE!'.

I guess that's probably a little too subjective, though.:D

You'll notice that I edited your post. Foul or vulgar language, even though common I'm afraid, is something we try to avoid even if thinly masked, but still obvious, and even if it's quoting someone or something.;) And I said, "small children . . . in church.":)

That is something that has gotten much worse in the last few months. It doesn't go well on a family friendly site.

I wasn't banned but I had a post deleted once that I know of. I belong to a squirrel dog hunting site and saw an amazing viedo of someone skinning a squirrel in less than a minute. All children hunting squirrel learn how to clean them. I posted the viedo on another site I belong to. It's about a fantasy book called The Wheel of Time. They said that viedo was totally unaceptable for children. I disagreed but I realize what I can and can't post there.

I once had a post deleted because I identified a site that was getting free publicity/advertising space by virtue of my posting on TBN. I support TBN's deletion of my post due to the parasitic nature of the other website. Jay

I've never been banned, but had plenty of posts deleted or closed. Most of the time it's because we wonder off into politics. I know better, but that doesn't always stop me from doing the wrong thing. hahaha

Some folks get very upset if they have a post removed, and I'm not sure why, since it doesn't cost them a nickel.:D And yes, I've had posts removed, too, and they should have been.

Seems the posts in this thread are starting to wander from the original question/intent. I formally request that this thread be closed!:D
