Recently there was some discussion on rear ballast and ballast boxes, so I figured I would show what I rigged up until I can get my box blade;

Carry-all fork from TSC plus 3 80lb and 3 40lb bags of softner salt.

Plus the Carry-all will come in handy for numerous other things.

Happy New Year Everyone/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

Let me know if people are getting sick of my pictures/w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif.

Paul, the carryalls are great. Real useful. Make decent pallet forks too.

I've been thinking about getting a carryall. Do they actually fit and work good as pallet forks?

Jim, they work for average pallet work. It can be close fit sometimes. Made from angle iron. I've seen them damaged with too heavy a load such as crates full of cabbage. There is a weight rating to them, under a 1/2 ton. That was fine for me as the lift cap on the 4100 is only 930#. The ones designed exclusivly as pallet forks are made of box steel with tapered ends. They cost more but are both stronger and longer.

my ballast comes from a TSC carryall and a 55gal. drum filled with water and used antifreeze. sometimes i use a piano for ballast.

Redhawk-

That looks like a great set-up as well. Mine is a 44gal heavy-duty trash can. I thought about filling mine w/water also, but the hose in my garage is frozen right now(gotta love MI weather/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif).

Happy New Year.

Paul, the nice thing about the 4x4 (wings) sticking out is that i can set the barrel down on a double set of 4x4's and drive away with the carryall still attached.

Thanks for the info. I noticed in some catalogs that the carryall and 3 point pallet forks both cost about the same. Would pallet forks be more versatile or not? I too have a 4100, so the 1000 pound capacity is well suited to the limits of my tractor.
