Was wondering about this - when I'm cutting something up, I have a habit of swinging the saw away from the work with my left hand if I need to use my right hand to pull something out of the way, reposition what I'm cutting, whatever.

When I do that I pop the chain brake on with the back of my left hand, so that I don't make any stupid mistakes like cutting off a leg or something. I don't like to put the saw down, and I really don't like shutting it off and putting it down.

Is using the brake like that a bad thing to do? Will constant use wear it out so that in a real emergency it doesn't function properly?

Chain break cheaper than limping the rest of ones life. ;)

Not very often w/one hand object can be set for safe cutting.
