Bad Dogs Bad Neighbor

/ Bad Dogs Bad Neighbor #111
I was attacked by a german shepard when I was about 8 while out running with my dad.
Dog saw me as "running away". Owner grabbed dog and left, no apology.
I needed stitches, but not too bad. We had a Shepard at home, so fear was not an issue.

In MA people dropped dogs off all the time, got surrounded by a pack that had gone wild once.
Local animal control really had their hands full.

On the positive note, neighbors dog used to break into my uncles house when we visited, came upstairs, pushed my door open and would wake me up to go play. Really great dog.
Very smart and knew how to push up the door latches (house was built 1860) and find me :)

Miss that dog.

Wish more owners would get sued for something like this. Dog should have been put down and owner sued for the maximum.

Owner should have been put down...
I fixed it for you.
When I read stories of children being mauled to death I agree with your statement.

In my case (not kenmbz), according to my older brother & sister, my dad had the gun loaded and my mother begged him not to kill the dog. I was in the hospital. :cautious: We were sort of friendly with the family, and our church advised us to “turn the other cheek” (even though it was MY cheek that got bitten), and so we never sued. This was back in the 70’s when suing was much less prevalent.

Soon after my attack, it attacked my neighbor out for a walk with his dog on a public road. It nearly killed his dog.
Then it attacked a tow truck driver who came to haul away a car they had that died. The tow truck driver was on their property when that happened. He got 88 stitches in the chest.

Finally, the dog was euthanized after that attack.

I don't understand people like that. The niece of a friend got badly bitten by the family dog when she was a toddler. Two dogs and the kid alone in the living room. The kid's father said "It wasn't MY dog that did it", and they continued living there. I saw her a few days after it happened... bite marks on her face so bad that she's lucky she didn't lose an eye and her nose. It was all that I could do to keep from doing something stupid involving me, the dog, and my .357.

Yeah it’s sounds tempting, but discharging a handgun to kill a neighbors dog on the neighbors property is a big chance to take. Probably jail time in todays goofy world.

That also applies to children. Upbringing and proper training equals good behavior. Seems as though many adults today with children and pets lack that ability.
I have found that when training a dog, you must be smarter than the dog, or they will train you.
In all too many cases, the dog is smarter.....

And county by county as well

In the state of Washington the County Sheriff is the supreme law enforcement authority sstate wide. I think, but not sure it is Federal law. At least that was what I was told in my dispatcher's training.

One hiw property? YEs. Here doge roaming free and endangering one's animals are open game. When dispatching I had a call of animals chasing a LLama and Kria. Kria died. LLama owner shot both dogs. Dog owner called and complained, said she wanted to take to the animals owner. "Lady"
I said. "that deputy you talked to WAS the LLama's owner" end of case.
