The property I owned previously for 41 years seemed to be a dump site. At one time I had 5 dogs. Only one was originally mine. Of the 15-20 dogs I had over the years I never could figure out why they got dumped. I never got a bad one. One of my two current dogs was dumped here at the farm where I live now. He was maybe a year old when he got dumped. That was 11 years ago. He's a great dog. Hi name is Willard.

A big can of bear spray for your walks. The dog will never approach you again. Trail cam with culprits picture in a letter with his DNA poop smeared on the paper and just say the District Attorney has the evidence and its logged with the state police. Do not sign the letter . If he doesn't stop then he is deranged

NEVER post a pic of the dog, but write a general description, and leave key information out about the dog that ONLY the owner of that dog would know about.

I've found through personal experience that there are a lot of crazy people in animal rescue work, but by the same token, there are actually a lot of crazy people looking for "lost pets".

You just want to ensure that the "lost" animal (pet) is given back to the rightful owner.

Yep. I pretty much told them I found a dog and tell me the description. No takers at all. Not one call. Anyhow, I named him 'Dog', after the dog in the John Wayne movie 'Big Jake'.

The law should be that you must get a permit to own a dog, and only one dog per household. And that permit can be revoked with enough complaints.

Dogs are pack animals. Many of them are much better behaved with at least one buddy. Plenty of laws already on the books. Just need them enforced.

Yes. County sheriff is the one to handle these type complaints. The State Police are primarily traffic control on state highways, not rural roads. County Sheriff is the highest ranking official in any county and can tell the state police where to get off. I was dispatcher for awhile and had to get in the middle of one of those disputes, Sheriff won.

This is 100% a state-by-state thing.

We had a run in with the people down the road 1/2 mile or so because they would not restrain their 2 large dogs. The kids or wife or myself go for a walk ride a bike etc. and the dogs chase and growl and scare the kids. Neighbors were not interested in keeping their dogs restrained. After the NYSP intervened we have just avoided walking that way if the dogs are out. Now the son 26 years old has been vandalizing our mailbox for a year or more. Leaves used condoms, liquor bottles full of urine and the latest party trick bags of feces. I have him on film and video and have filed a report with NY state police so far nothing has happened and the SOB just did it again on Sunday in broad daylight. I am looking for ideas for non-lethal ways to deter this scum bag until the cops can do something to help. I also filed an online claim with the postal service. Very frustrating and annoying.

Talk to your local postmaster. Tampering with US mail is a federal crime and they have postal investigators who can address this.

I knew this woman. What a tragedy. She was a wonderful person and an amazing lacrosse player. These killer dogs are over the top in the hands of an irresponsible owner.

Couldnt believe the news when it happened.

I was attacked by a German Shepard just walking down a country road when I was 9 years old. Took 86 stitches to put me back together. Funny thing was, all I remembered was the dog leaping on me. I went into shock. The woman who finally got the dog to stop biting me said I just laid there like a rag doll (went into shock). Thank God she came to my rescue.
I was able to overcome my fear of large vicious dogs, but had a few more run ins with overly large angry dogs. Hate the damn things. They can ruin a whole neighborhood when they are completely unnecessarily roaming free.
Theres no reason to own a killer dog and let it roam free. Those things have to be managed as if they could kill a person. Therefore they need to be caged, fenced or remain inside a home.

I totally agree with you - Jstpssng. The dog acts the way it does because the owner fails to train them.

SHOOT the owner - train the dog. An owner who does not take care of his animals - just a worthless waste of skin.

That also applies to children. Upbringing and proper training equals good behavior. Seems as though many adults today with children and pets lack that ability.

For some reason people don't believe me that if I ever caught one of my dogs biting someone in my presence on my property that didn't need to be bit, I'd put the dog down, there on the spot. Can't remember ever owning a dog that "went" after someone.

If anything they (the dogs) can drive me nuts when they hear someone in the driveway. That said, that's what they're supposed to do anyways LOL

Your dog, your responsibility. A dog that bites or acts aggressive towards humans off the dogs "turf" is a disaster waiting to happen. It's not a question of "if", but "when".

That said, we have people who apparently can't control their dogs and their own adult children. If a 26 year old is playing with the OP's mailbox, tells you enough about the parents.

Lowlife scumbag adults, aka: trash Lots of them out there and most feel 'entitled'. Most need 'planted' just like the recalcitrant dog. Hopefully someday, the society we live in comes to that realization and allows it to occur. In the meantime, all one can do is turn the other cheek and smile... too bad really.
