Anyone have a BH thumb they would recommend for the GC2310?

I have a Rankin mechanical thumb mounted on my GC2310. I have used it almost every time I've used the backhoe, and wouldn't think of having a backhoe without one now.

The Rankin is manufactured in Yakima, WA - here's a web link: Rankin Equipment Co.

Hi Jetwoz,

I'm also curious about this so if you don't mind, keep us posted in here. I'm also curious if an hydrolic thumb would be an option for this little machine...

(BTW, on the Rankin Web Site, look for Thumbs on the left menu)

Thanks,
Max

jetwoz- I just installed mine-- there's a bit of misspelling there, it's "Bro-Tek." Richard is great to deal with, lives in New Brunswick.

Psst. Irvingj.

Your garage is way too clean. It's going to cause problems at home if my wife sees those pictures.

Since I'm trying to keep costs down I will not be purchasing a hyd thumb. I'm sure I'll be sorry since I'm tearing down a house, wrecking a large concete patio, concrete basement walls and then building a new house. Penny wise and pound foolish? ;-(

Wow, jetwoz- for all that work, I'd agree with two_bit-- I also think you should invest in a hydraulic thumb! I doubt you'd regret it.

jaybrad-- those pics were at the door end- of course they look good, I gotta be able to get the cars in! Other end of the garage is a whole different story.... You'll notice that grandson helps kepp the "clutter factor" right up there. There- feel better?

What's the cost difference for a hydraulic thumb - and can this be added to a Bro-Tek mechanical one? I plan my work to take into consideration that using the thumb requires an extra step, but can see where a hydraulic setup would be very nice for larger projects. And perhaps an "accessory opportunity?"

Thanks for the showing the other end of your garage. It's still a lot neater than mine, but it also looks wider than mine - so clearly there's the answer: we need a larger garage.:D

Interesting concept, jaybrad-- I suppose you could replace the "adjustable top link" with a hydraulic piston.... hmmm... I'm sure you've seen some posts on adding hydraulics, yes? (Have to admit, I'm wondering about that, too!)

My brother's Case 580D has a hydraulic thumb-- I have to admit it's great to watch him use it! ("CRUNCH!!")

In the case of jetwoz's tear-downs, those things can make quick work of disassembling stick-built structures... but I wonder if the 2310 has the juice to be able to use a hydraulic thumb to its full potential.

As far as the garage, I watched my brothers build their houses & garages (3 in the area), and since I ran out of $$ whern I built my house (garage lost out :(), I had the opportunity to wait --for 18 years!!-- and observe.... I ended up with brother-with-the-backhoe's help and made mine 32' x 32', with a 6-1/2' extension on one side of the slab for a shed roof thing. I used to put the boat in there, but now I use it for the 2310, and it works very well! (Sometimes luck is with you....)

Pic shows shed roof add-on after some drainage work done last spring; see how nicely 2310 fits in there? I have never regretted making the garage as big as I could fit in the space I had. Makes a nice work area, too-- a lot better than the driveway!:D

Well you sold me. I ordered my thumb about a week ago and I'm waiting for it to come in. My youngest son-in-law who is a mechanical engineer and designs production equipment is going to help put a hyd cyl on the thumb. Kids great has a 30hp NH with loader, box scraper, rake, spreader, etc. He not only knows how to design but know how to build, weld, electrical, fish and is just one great son-in-law. He does allow that there is not a muffler made for a tractor that I can't mannage to snap off somehow. :D I'll post some pictures and instructions when we put the hyd cyl on.

Does anyone know if the Bro-Tek will fit on a 2410 BH? If so-my dealership says they can sell me one for $450 but they don't know if it will fit on the 2410 yet.

Can anyone recommend anything else?
