I'm going to make a cement ballast for inside the bucket, just no where else to put it up front.
As far as chain tension, I don't know, I'll have to look it up on how to take the play up and yes the boom will lift back of tractor off the ground

The only issue is that will reduce your lifting capacity and room in the bucket and having to remove it every time you want to grade/scoop would be a pain.. It would be better to attach a weight bracket as the front frame in front of the axle if possible as Vigo327 suggested.

That would be much cleaner and yes, it would take some welding but you have the skills to weld so fab up a box and fill it with concrete etc.
