Great post by RobertN. I would definately go with the hydraulic flush, new filters before tearing into the HST. It is not a fun job to get into those, and any kind of dust can present harm to the compnents. The tolerances are so incredibly perfect inside of those things! As Robert mentioned, or asked I should say, are you blowing black smoke when it oes under load? Does the engine die out at all, or does the traction simply quit? If the traction just quits, and the tractor does not load up at all, I would suspect plugged filters. Make sure you take out the "rock filter" and clean the screen completely. Change the hydro filter also. If you take out that "rock filter" and see it is plugged up, it is almost a sure thing the hydro service will get you back in business. If you are lugging down under load, then it may be an engine problem. Like injectors, or valves. Good luck.

My new (used) B20 Similar HST Problem ??!!!

To-day was my first day that I could actually get my new toy, B20 TLB 550 Hrs, out and get it to work. No problems digging up an old stump...BUT when I put the HST under any load, very little power, almost stalling. Running at @2800 rpm it would not back up a 20 degree slope in mid range, did manage in low but it was a struggle..or atleast it squeeled awfull loud. What would be an acceptable squeelch factor???

HST fluid part way down, but not below safe range, and clear in color.

I purchased from dealer who led my to believe, or at least I thought so, that all fluids had recently been changed...???

(I was so happy to find one, and with only 550 hrs of personal use it looked great and I only had 1 hr to get ready for an appointment, the reason for my out of town trip. I bought it based upon verbal assurances it was in great shape! (I know..I know..))

So what should I check, and what's the best approach to take to the dealer,,,who is 500 miles away.....

At a minimum could I expect a shipment of required filters and oil? Or could it be more serious and load it up and bring it back for him to check out...?? A day's trip each way plus the time there???

Any insights much appreciated!

Just a thought, but is the parking brake on? I've noticed that neither my tractor or ZTR seem to have much power when I leave the parking brakes on./w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif.

Well, I changed the fluid, filter and cleaned the screen... when I changed the filter found white plastic pieces and part of a gasket blocking one of the lines??? no clue where these pieces came from or if there is more floating around in there somewhere.... this seemed to help a little bit but still not right the engine doesn't even start to bogg down and the transmission seems like it goes into neutral....also if I back up a incline I can use a higher gear most of the time. still seems like when it calls for higher pressure almost seems like the fluid blows by or not enough fluid.... I think I am just going to drop it off a dealer have them check it out.... I hope it is not like the 9200 and needs a new trans.............. What a great deal I got............

My service Manual left out the D950 engine and the HST. Odd... I was going to look for plastic parts in the hydro circuit, but there aint much info there.

As I mentioned, I have noticed a power loss when the radiator screen was dirty. My last tuneup, with a new air filter, I could feel the difference too. But, my HST has never itself seemed affected by this.

Well, bad news, it sounds like the one of the case relief valves. They have o'rings and backing rings on them. If they blew, then you would not get power in one direction or the other. Gonna be a major job. There are several valves that sit in the HST housing that divert oil, on of them has failed. If the dealer is real good, they should be able to take care of it w/o pulling the HST. Problem is, the daignosis time. They will have to pressure test every port one at a time. If there are more than one failures, it usually requires it being removed. If the HST has any kind of wear, then it is going to be extremely costly. A new HST is over 1600 bucks. If it's just the valve, then it is about 120 bucks plus labor. Man, I hope it's just the one valve. Sorry to give ya the news, hopefully, I'll be wrong.

You are right it, is the secondary (drive pump) in the hst... dealer is going to try fix it .... the drive pump will not hold pressure, and the warm it gets the quicker it losses pressure... Thanks for the input.....
