Are you wanting to split the tractor and rebuild the hydrostat? Or are you trying to do the testing? I'd say these aren't really amateur jobs. Splitting the tractor isn't that tough but rebuilding the hydrostat takes a bit more skill, plus it's a couple day job even for a professional mechanic.

As far as testing the pressures most hydrostats need some specialized fittings to hook the gauges to and you'll need the manual to walk you through it.

Brain this is what I was thinking of trying to repair ?? It what the other guy had posted
I'm broke so maybe reaching for straws??

You are right it, is the secondary (drive pump) in the hst... dealer is going to try fix it .... the drive pump will not hold pressure, and the warm it gets the quicker it losses pressure... Thanks for the input.....

Well the two rotating groups (pump and motor) in the hydrostat are about $500 each plus the two wear plates at probably $100 each. Sometimes the brass piston shoes and wear plates can be lapped with lapping compound on a flat plate or piece of glass. Your results may vary.

How do you know this is even the problem? Using "some guy on the internet 13 years ago had the same problem so that must be it" is a poor diagnostic tool.

Brian
Thanks again
Let me explain, I asked after doing the search everything he stated is my problem
I would not do anything until I got it diagnosed by the dealer
I was asking about the fix, if it in fact did come out to,be,
Then it that point I would be able to decide if I should bring it home, or let the shop Do it
I maybe should have started a new thread
This is the first tractor I've had bought at yoder Frey auction
I changed fluids and cleaner Air filter I haven't pulled the fuel filter but I will in the next day or so
When I got it home the hydro oil was mixed with water I found the shifter boot was split
I have changed the fluid twice, after not liking the looks of the first change and a couple hours of use

Have you cleaned or replaced the suction screen. The water in the oil gums them up pretty well.

I have cleaned the only screen I know of
It is a large bolt that is on the right side of the tractor
If you where sitting on it ,it's rt and in behind your right foot
It is a very fine stainless mesh

Do you have any other thoughts on what
I should do or try before I take it to the shop

Does it have the problem in forward and reverse? Is the clutch properly adjusted? Is the clutch slipping?

Other than that all the test of the checks need the test fittings.

It is very slow in both forward and reverse
Reverse is much stronger that forward
In forward after its warm it will just stop going forward
If there is as litter as a 2" change in terrain
I than have to put it in low #1 all other gears with will just
Not move
To get it in Shed there is a 2or 3 inch step up only in low low
