B8200 4WD front end slipping

My B8200 recently devloped a problem. When the 4WD is engaged and I put a load on the front wheels, like trying to climb a muddy slope, the front wheels don't pull their fair share. The rears are turning (slipping in the mud), but the fronts are not. It sounds like there is a gear that is slipping; kind of a clunk-clunk-clunk. Maybe jack it up so you can tell how the four wheels are turning. It will also give the chance to check for noise or play in the front end when the tractor is turned off.

Hope it's a simple fix.

Gee...That sound serious. As a Kubota freak, I'd have the jitters....

First off, I'd drain the front differential housing and have a look at the fluid to see what's in it. If it's okay, I'd pull the front end and have a look at the front driveshaft. You say it's klunk, klunk. Sounds to me like the splines on the front driveshaft are gone bye,bye. If you are really mechanically inclined, get a shop manual and do it yourself. If not, take it to a Kubota dealer. I mean a Kubota authorized dealer. It takes some special tools to do the job.

I had the front drive shaft come loose of the front diff of my B8200 once. It would clunk when I put it in 4x4, because the front drive line was flopping around. I think a retaining/cross pin had come loose and fallen out. It was a simple fix. Fortunately when it came loose it did not mess up the splines on the driveshaft or pinion shaft.
