I'll bet you don't need chains at all. The chains will rip your driveway up if anything does.

I have the "industrial" type tires. They should be o.k right? I've heard that the ag ones are good too but that the industrial was as well.

My neighbor has a new-looking B7800. Very nice tractor. He was complaining to me about clearing snow once. I asked him if he had tried using the differential lock. He said, "The what?"

I've done only one 6" snow, but I was blown away by the immense amount of traction my tractor had with turf tires and no chains. I cleared nearly 2,000 feet of driveway in under 2 hours (7 seperate driveways) with nothing but my FEL and a cup of coffee. The steepest driveway (unpaved) is probably 15% to 20% grade. The steepest paved driveway is ~10% grade.

I'd hold on chains until you give 'er a shot. I suspect you'll be very pleasently surprised. Especially with the R4s. Personally, I'll get another set of rims with AGs mounted before I consider chains. But as mentioned, I'm pushing the limits of my turf tires every other time I use my machine.

Thanks, that was all very helpful. What or How much weight do you think is a sufficient amount for ballast. I'll have a backbalde on most of the time, but would a weight box work as well? The tires are filled too.

A weight box would works as well as a back blade. I used the back blade for a few years. Until I backed the back blade into both garage doors. Weight box does not stick out back as far as a back blade.

Kubota makes one. Some have made them out of a drum filled with concrete. Make sure it is less than 600 lbs for you B7800.

Is there a reason you think it should be under 600 pounds. Mine is over 800 pounds for my B7800. It is perfect so far. You can actually make a 55 gallon drum 1000 pounds. That is less than 1/2 the capability of the 3 point hitch
