Does anybody know of a non spooling seatbelt retrofit? The stock one is totally unusable for typical applications.

* Why is that?
What do you mean?

It continually tightens until you are pinned down with the seat spring compressed. It might work if you are moving on a perfectly smooth surface and don't turn to look behind you or shift your weight. Problem is I can't do any work that way. I just need an old fashion seat belt that I can adjust to fit around me and keep me from getting thrown off. For now, I just can't use it.

Not a bad request actually. The old style with the fixed length latch side and the manually adjustable lap belt had its advantages.

I believe that's a bit extreme, well I believe it's way extreme. I agree that it's an issue but "totally unusable for typical application"??? I do hillside work and when going downhill then back up all of my tractors have tightened to the extent that I have to undo the seatbelt every so often which is a bit aggravating and then reconnect it. On level ground or on slight ups and down which I think are most typical applications it doesn't cause any problem. But I agree that I would rather have a plain ole me tightening hook up because of my steep hill side.

A center seat belt from an auto salvage yard should fill the bill. These were used extensively in the 70s and 80s. I paid $3 each for a pair I put in a go-kart some years ago.

I don't have any ground that is flat or smooth. I would like to use it but the discomfort and movement restriction it causes makes it impractical on my property.

This is coming from a guy that religiously straps in.

I may give that a try.

Instead of replacing the OE belt, is there some way to prevent it from retracting. I know my wife does not like the shoulder strap in the car rubbing on her neck all the time so she simply put a clothes pin on the belt to keep it from going in any further. (Please no lectures from the safety police here. Believe me, I have tried) I realize a clothes pin would probably not work on the tractor, but there must be something you could clamp on the belt to prevent it from retracting. Maybe a zip tie?

That is a good idea as well. I never considered such a simple fix! My wife drives the tractor from time to time so that may be an issue. I may try it until I can maybe find a center belt.
