B3030 dipstck question

I checked the Hydraulic fluid level after the tractor had been sitting for awhile and the dipstick came up dry. I checked it again and the stick came out wet above the full mark, how can it be dry on the first check and wet on the second without doing anything inbetween checks??????
Can you hurt anything by putting to much fluid in or will it just come out the overflow?

You did do something. You removed the dipstick and allowed air to escape and the fluid level came up into the tube.
