I looked real quick but didn't see where you posted your 'what tool to use next' thread? Could you post a link for me? I'm really interested in the responses because I will be in your situation sometime this summer with an acre or so.
I was thinking a harley rake would work best, but not sure what you would do about all the roots sticking up???

What I did was went over it several times with the box blade scarifers all the way down. Then rakes it by hand, cut anything sticking up, then repeated the process. That pretty much got everything out of there. I did this over several hours.
Now I think I am going to buy a tiller, for my purposes.
