This is my first post here. I'm looking to buy my first tractor and looking in the orange direction after reading all the post here.
My question is, I've found a B2710 w/ 130 hrs. on it with FEL, Tiller, Finishing mower, Post hole digger, scrape and box scrape, All looks new, been garaged.
Price $12,500.00.
But I've been looking at the B7800 w/ FEL and woods BH new with low finance from Kubota. I have 7 acres with about 3 that I need to work, basically clean up after it's already been ground up with one of those Bobcat Mulchers.
My question is that the 2710 looks a little small for FEL work.
Does anyone have any experience with the 2710 vs the B7800. I would thank you for all advise.
Bobby:)

The B2710 is basicly the same tractor that a B7800 is with slightly less horsepower. The frame size is identical. 130 hours is the same as new if it has been cared for. I believe that the same backhoe will fit both, and the Woods BH70, and Kubota BH75 would be the correct choice in either case. The B2710 probably has position control on the three point, and perhaps a nicer three point hitch (was optional) Check both for a mid PTO though I think all B2710's shipped with one. Unless there is something you really don't like about the B2710 I would look pretty closely at buying that.

Thanks, for the info. I just looked at the 2710, looks new and has been taken care of. The FEL,finish mower and Tiller is a Kubota brand, the scrape and box scrape and post hole digger is not Kubota brand and has been out in the weather but still has paint on them. Tires look new also.
I'm going this afternoon to drive it and check it out a little more but it looks like a go right now.

I love my 7800 but that looks like a good deal.

I agree that the 2710 sounds like a good deal. I've seen not-so-clean 2710s selling around these parts for that kind of money with no impliments (just a loader). Chuck is right, they are virtually the same tractor...... the 2710 will give up a few ponies but has a few "deluxe" features. I don't feel you will really miss the 3 hp.

I've not used a B7800, but did own a B2710 and really liked that little tractor. I bought one of the earliest models which had a single hydraulic fluid filter, while the later ones had two such filters; one on each side. I think the second filter is probably a good idea, but I had no real problem with the single one. And I'd prefer the B2710 over the B7800 simply because I like position control that much.

Thanks all for the input. One question since I'm new to tractors, at least the Kubota's. What is the position control? What does it do or not do?
Thanks all!

Briefly, position control allows you to set the height of an implement using a scale on the control for reference. You can go back to that same height over, and over. On the B7800, you have to lower the implement to the ground for reference, or eyeball the height of the implement.

Bobby, there are probably others who can explain it better in fewer words, but . . . I used to have a B7100 that did NOT have position control. When you moved the lever forward, the 3-point hitch started down and it continued down until it either reached the lower limits of its travel OR you moved the lever back to the center. By the same token, when you pulled back on the lever, the 3-point started moving up and would continue until it reached the limits of its travel OR you moved the lever back to the center. Then the B2710 did have position control. You never worried about moving the lever to the center. If you pushed the lever forward about half way and left it there, the 3-point would lower to that level and stop. If you pulled back on the lever, the 3-point raised, but you left the lever in the "position" you wanted and the 3-point raised or lowered to that point and stopped and stayed there. So, if you lower an implement, for instance a rotary cutter, to the height you want to work, then later you raise it for some reason, you can quickly and easily lower it again to the same level without even looking at it.

As with many "features", position control is not really necessary, but is a great convenience that I like.

Thanks Chuck and Bird,

I think I understand it now. I've already committed to the 2710 and I think it will do just what I need. I'm very glad that I found this forum, I've learned a lot of things that I didn't know about the Kubota's. I don't think I'll be disappointed. I'll post pic's of it after the deal is done.
Thanks again all!
Bobby

I think you made a good choice, and I'm sure you will be very happy with the tractor. Glad we could help in some way. Bird's explanation was better than mine, but as long as you got the idea, that is what is important. Enjoy!

I like my B7800! My wheel barrow and shovel didn't have position control either:)

There's certainly nothing wrong with the B7800. In fact, it's bigger, and in my opinion, better than a B7100 which I also had and liked. I just liked the B2710 a little more.:D

Congratulations Bobby - I think you got a great deal with all those implements. That's a very nice package.

Enjoy!

Hi all-

For those who answered this question last year I'm seeking a bit of an update in the information - about a year's worth (although I realize fully that I won't get the deal that Bobby got).

I currently have a BX 2230 and would like to move up a little (more ground clearance, heavier frame, bit more power). I don't need a MMM; I currently have one with the 2230 but find hooking it up to be a PITA, so 3-point finish mower would be what I use.

I at first started thinking new 2920 (and got a price or two). May go that way if the financing and trade work out (or not). Then saw a used 7800 for a good price. This being said, the heavier/more featured 3PH and position valve of the 2910/2710 has appeal due to grading work (and snow plowing - don't get enough snow days to justify a blower - just get clobbered 1-2 times per winter). Hence, I found a used 2710 and started thinking about this.

Here's the main stats on the two potential used ones...

B7800 with FEL - 140 hours or so, 12500
B2710 with FEL - 265 hours or so, 10950

Both are 2006 models.

All else being equal, what do those who own/have owned one or both of these think?

Thanks.

Dave

I had a B7800 and it's a fine machine. I do prefer my current B3200 and for the prices your quoting your really near a new B3200 price. I have a RFM 6' Landpride for sell $950, paid $1800 for it. Used it on my B7800 for a couple of years and worked great on it.
