B2710, 72\" Belly Mower Question

Hoping someone else with a B2710 and 72" belly mower (RC72-27B) can help me out. Specifically need to know the length of the verticle mower arm link on one or two other tractors. The one on mine is 8.5" and seems too long. Had this mower and linkages on a previous B2710 which was replaced, and they worked fine. Both are 2000 models (unless new one is a 2001, not really sure I guess).

Mower deck 'mower links' are shown on page 25 of the mower owners manual (RC72-27B), drawing G-5415. Problem is I cannot get the lift arms connected to the link stopper to keep them up when the mower deck is off the tractor. Appears the verticle link (not named in the manual/drawing) is too long and hits the underside of the operator deck/floor when trying to connect to the link stopper. Misses making the connection by about an inch. Also, when hanging the arms seems much closer to the ground (~4") than the last one. Also noticed something hitting the underside when traveling with the deck raised--would guess it was this link hitting the underside of the operator deck/floor. The verticle link I'm talking about is the one with a slot at the top and a through hole at the bottom. Again, mine measures 8.5" end to end. Also, appears much longer than the one in the picture in the manual--rest of the pieces are the same as pictured. Stumped as to why, as it looks like it was off the old machine. Operator deck looks like it is on right, couldn't go on any other way from what I see. Design change from the last one??

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Just curious, have you asked the dealer about this? They might have (or maybe not) a quick/easy solution.

Re: B2710, 72\" Belly Mower Question

M.Sullivan,I'm not for sure of the length of the vertical linkage your talking of.I do know that if your deck is raising "too" high, and making contact somewhere, that can be adjusted with the linkage that is attached to the brackets that ride on top of your 3-point arms, and the front center link adjustment. For the links that hook-up your mower linkage while your deck is off the tractor,I had what I thought was also a problem,or something out of adjustment, the little brackets that accept the spring loaded pins from your deck linkage where about 1/2" off and would'nt hook-up.After looking at this for a while,I realized that I was the problem.I don't think I can explain this to you from this keyboard, but, when you raise up the mower linkage to hook in the stationary possition, try moving the "hook-up" toward the rear of the tractor, this should let the link raise enough to make the connection. To me,it was just a matter of holding my mouth just right, till I got it the first time, after that,no problem.I'm sure I have'nt made much sense to you,but I hope this helps anyway.

Re: B2710, 72\" Belly Mower Question

Mike,
Went out and measured mine (2710 with 72") and the arm that I think you are talking about is right on at 8.5".
I have had my deck off and the arms raised and locked with no problems.
When I locked the arms in the up position, I had to fiddle with the 3pt up and down a little to get the pin and hole to line up but once it was locked, I found no problem with anything binding.
Let me know if I can check anything else

Re: B2710, 72\" Belly Mower Question

M.Sullivan,

I have the 72" deck on a 2910. I take it on and off frequently, and know the problem you are talking about. This usually happens to me on the right side of the tractor. The vertical rod with the slot that is bumping up into your deck is also linked to a horizontal rod that goes toward the rear of the tractor. Jiggle the horizontal rod further toward the rear. This will pull the vertical rod toward the rear and tilt it so that it no longer bumps up into the deck. You can then get the stop link in place and insert the pin.

Re: B2710, 72\" Belly Mower Question

Thanks all! Looks like mine had a combination of the issues listed. Mostly, appears to be misalignment of the operator deck--too far forward on the right side. But, with the trusty ballpeen, was able to get it in place and the arms out of the way. As I will only have to do this once a year most likely, not a big deal. Thanks again.
