Why I gave you the "bare tractor" numbers is because that gets to the root of "apples to apples".

Tractors vary enormously in configurations and set ups. The "bare tractors" are all the same - just the power source, no extras.

So when you look at your 22,366 and 19,504 numbers - you have to drill in to that and find what specifically they are equipped with and what those values are. For example - the loader and bucket (2 different "attachments"). Does one have a grapple in that price? A set of forks? Is one bucket a heavy duty bucket and another a light material bucket? Does one bucket have a tooth bar on it and another a smooth edge? Does one tractor have R1 tires and the other R4? What about R14 or turf tires?

If they can give you the break down of how those numbers fall down to - bare tractor and every accessory/attachment (again - loader and bucket are 2, not 1) then I think you will have a better understanding of those values and if one is worth it over the other.
The tractors are identical, except for the 208 hours on the used unit. Both have a QA bucket, and R-4 tires, neither has a grapple, or a tooth bar.

With tax added, new is 22,366, and used is 19504. Not trading the BX.
Unless you need two somewhat similar sized tractors for some reason, I can't see having a B and a BX. I've got basically a L3560 and I'm on the lookout for a BX type thing because I need something significantly smaller than what I have, but unless you've got two people needing to do similar work at the same time, I'd definitely push into the next size level.

It's not a huge step up in size, but it does have double the lift capacity.
Interesting. I didn't realize it was that much. I still wouldn't call the B2601 lift capacity impressive. I have to leave a 6 foot finish mower hanging out the back to have any confidence with a bucket full of dirt or gravel.

Agree with Ning - go the next size up, an L2502 or LX2610-20 with a 535 loader and grapple etc.

What are your intended uses/application for this addition?

While I don't have a L2502 sized tractor ... I think it's a good size to avoid the emissions stuff ...

I do have a SCUT, basically a BX sized tractor, just a tad bigger and more powerful, and a Grand L which is bigger than the regular "L's" ...

The one disadvantage for the OP going up to the L size is the width of the tractor ... And using whatever rear attachments he may have, as they may be a bit narrow ...

I'm not sure how much work is involved in the BX23 to remove or the reattachment of the BH is? (I know some people complain in general about how hard and time consuming changing is) but on my Massey Ferguson it's quite easy ... Once the three point stuff is tucked away, just back close, hook the hydraulic lines, and then manipulate the three legged hydraulic stool legs ... Just yesterday I did this and set my stopwatch ...

Unless the wife is claiming the BX, or you have a completely different use for it, you will rarely climb on it once you get the B.

I went from a SCUT to a similar sized CUT. I would have 0 use for a SCUT now. Until I'm 75 maybe.

That new price with loader seems fair for a Kubota to me. But I know it's a buyers market so shop around.

Look at Yanmar SA425. I love mine.

That's pretty quick. I think Massey makes the best SCUT you can buy.
They make great tractors in general.

I'm looking at upgrading a bit from my BX23 to a 2601. My dealer has a used 2601 bought new by one of their mechanics and traded on a larger tractor. It looks new, has 208 hours, and 4 years left on the warranty. They're asking $18,400. A new tractor similarly equipped, is about $21,300. Of course neither price includes taxes. Do those prices sound reasonable? Thanks!
If you are financing the tractor it might be cheaper in the long run to buy new. Are they offering any low interest rate on the new one? Just look at the total of the purchase price and add the total finance cost on each option.

At the moment, they are offering money off or 0% financing for 36 months on some models, the 2601 being one. I planned to pay cash for it, hoping that would help, but it hasn't all that much. I'm tied up the rest of this week, but will continue with negotiations early next week.

I appreciate all the responses. I'm not new to the BX world as I've owned mine for 18 years. I know the good and bad about it, as well as the limitations. I'm interested in the 2601 because of the lift capacity, ground clearance, and size. It's also non-DEF, and that's a plus. Keeping the BX? With almost 1500 hours, plenty of scratches, a few leaks, what's it worth? A BH for the 2601 is around $11,000, which is more that I'd get selling the BX. My sons both have some land that needs help from time to time, and I could loan them the BX. It also has a MMM that I use to cut the field at my place, rather than my ZT. Keep the thoughts coming.

What are your thoughts on the LX2620 or L2502? These being larger frame machines with simple engines. Everything is done a little slower due to that power to weight ratio, but they have the hydraulics of their frame size- so they can lift quite a bit.

Are these machines too big a step up in size?

Having owned a BX the end loader bucket is really small. The bucket on the B sized machine doesn’t just lift more but I bet the volume is about twice as big.

With all the replies and different suggestions made to the original poster, Pipefitter, the post made me think of something I have often thought about, but never asked, is "Does Kubota make too many versions of their CUTs and SCUTs.Is there too much overlap between models? I'll be the first to admit that, although I have used a few different tractors, and owned 2 Kubotas, I don't know a lot about the technical side of them. It's abvious that Kubota tries to fill the needs of as many customers as possible, but couldn't some of the needs of a customer be filled by making them optinal equipment, instead of going into a whole different model. Like I said I'm not well schooled on the technical side, so maybe my question is naive?

l think they have more models than the market needs, but I don't know who they aim them at. You make a good point.

I have a B2650. My third Kubota. Size is fine for my purposes and easy to haul. The difference between a new B2610 and a used one with 200 hours equipped the same is NOTHING. Buy the broken-in one which you know has functioned fine and save some money. in 5 years you'll have about 1000 hours on either one and wouldn't know the difference.

You need a better Accountant...
Virginia offers sales tax exemptions on items used directly in agricultural production for market, including seeds, feed, fertilizers, machinery, and, in some cases, ATVs. Farmers must use Form ST-18 to certify exemptions to retailers. The exemption applies to tangible personal property used for commercial farming, not personal use.
