Tractor
Kubota BX 23
I'm looking at upgrading a bit from my BX23 to a 2601. My dealer has a used 2601 bought new by one of their mechanics and traded on a larger tractor. It looks new, has 208 hours, and 4 years left on the warranty. They're asking $18,400. A new tractor similarly equipped, is about $21,300. Of course neither price includes taxes. Do those prices sound reasonable? Thanks!

208 hours and 4 years left on the warrantee is a sweet spot in buying any tractor if you can agree on a price (and if it is in really good condition when you inspect it.) Make them an offer.

The used one looks great. I thought at first it already had a third function valve, but it doesn't.

So does it have a loader (I assume so...)?

Being that tariffs are changing daily, I wonder how much of the T-tax was included when the used tractor was originally purchased? How much T-tax is added for new units?

Are those "out the door" prices you're comparing? Are there setup or other fees to consider?

Also, if you're trading your BX, they may not give you the same $$ toward a used vs a new tractor.

If it helps any - I was recently quoted $18,650 for a B2601 new, bare tractor (no loader in that price). We decided to go up to the LX2620 at $20,300. Bigger machine for not much more $. We got a lot of front end equipment including grapple and the required 3ord function also.

For what it is worth - at the horsepower of these machines (25hp class, sub-emissions) - I still think bigger is better. If you need a mid mount mower you top out at the LX. If you can get by without a mid mount mower you get more "tractor" with a standard L. I wouldnt hesitate to go that way at 25hp, but to each their own. We're happy with the LX considering its class and what we can do with it. I would not want to go with the B, or a BX for that matter, after running the LX, in other words. More tractor and loader capacity with the LX. That is a blessing for us. We could use a lot more loader capacity, but we're able to get by. Anything smaller is dropping down even further.

With tax added, new is 22,366, and used is 19504. Not trading the BX.

Why I gave you the "bare tractor" numbers is because that gets to the root of "apples to apples".

Tractors vary enormously in configurations and set ups. The "bare tractors" are all the same - just the power source, no extras.

So when you look at your 22,366 and 19,504 numbers - you have to drill in to that and find what specifically they are equipped with and what those values are. For example - the loader and bucket (2 different "attachments"). Does one have a grapple in that price? A set of forks? Is one bucket a heavy duty bucket and another a light material bucket? Does one bucket have a tooth bar on it and another a smooth edge? Does one tractor have R1 tires and the other R4? What about R14 or turf tires?

If they can give you the break down of how those numbers fall down to - bare tractor and every accessory/attachment (again - loader and bucket are 2, not 1) then I think you will have a better understanding of those values and if one is worth it over the other.
