B2400 starting problem finally solved

   / B2400 starting problem finally solved #21
Just letting you know. This fix is the best.its been over a week and has worked every time. So easy. After 900 hours the tractor is starting faster and stronger then ever. I finally fix something that I've been dealing with for over 10 years just to sell it. I even put the old starter back in. So if anyone is looking for a new starter that fits a b 2100 and probly more give me email. Ktmhans@yahoo.com thanks for all the help. My part was up to $32 now but no worries.

My B2400 was displaying the same symptoms, clicking, but not cranking. I installed the JD kit and like magic, it's working great.

Thank you to all the great contributors to this site!!!

My B1700 and JD f535 experience the same symptoms.....click...click...click...click...click...start. New batteriers etc haven't solved the issue. I'll be heading to the JD dealer to pick up a couple of these relays..Thanks for the posts...I should have checked this thread out 2 years ago.

I would guess that any 12vdc relay that will handle the solonoid current draw would suffice.

Going to try this in the morning, thanks to all posters!

I just did this fix on my ZD28F which was acting like it's barn sibling B2400 a few years ago. $30 and about 10 minutes later, she cranked over on the first try. Thanks yet again to TBN folks!!

tinab: Glad to help a neighbor (I live in Ballston Spa): Here is the wiring hook up for the low voltage relay (also in my 8/18/2010 posting in this thread) :

Re: B2400 starting problem finally solved

I have a printed copy of Kubmech's response to the starting problem. Per this response the low voltage starting relay is hooked up as follows:

Red wire goes to battery terminal of the starter.

Black wire goes to ground.

You plug the black/white lead that would normally go to your starter to the male purple connector of the relay and the female connector purple lead to the starter.

Hope this helps.

Tina: I don't know anything about a G1900S. I would think that all Kubota diesels are wired the same.

Saw this thread a couple days ago, interested me because I have a B2400. Same problem Ive had for months, turn the key multiple times and nothing. Anyway, bought the JD part off ebay yesterday, $25 shipped, got it today. Installed it boom boom bang, simple simple easy easy done. Cranks instantly.

Wondering how many thousands of B-series owners and how many thousands of wasted hours and dollars are being sent to Kubota dealers way because of this glinch.
Kubota should have a bulletin on this problem and its easy fix.

I bought a used Kubota G1900S this summer, and it has frequent non starting issues, I can start it by wire jumping the solenoid, so what does that tell me might be wrong?
I put a jumper wire in the seat safety switch, that did not work, I tried the JD relay switch to the solenoid, that did not work, and I can not find where the other two safety switches are. Does anyone have an idea?
I have only gotten to use the machine less than 8 times, at least now I can get it started thanks to Ed... but i would like to figure out what is actually wrong.
Thanks for any help you may have.
Tina

Add one more AM107421 fix. 2004 BX2200. Thought I had bad battery, $72, didn't fix the problem. Considered regulator but that part rarely fails. It tested good on output in any case, 14.5 volts at rated RPM. Found Kubmech's post via Google link to tractorbynet. Great site, joined immediately. Bingo, starts are not only dependable but more agressive. Full voltage makes solenoid operate better/faster. Note that the relay harness works but is not an exact fit on my unit. Red lead to starter no problem, same with ground. There is a convenient ground bolt on frame under the starter. Female receptor on the Black/white stripe solenoid lead is a bit smaller than male blade on the purple lead on harness. Bent back the outermost locking tab and was able to jam it in. Not ideal but good contact. The female connector from harness fits into the solenoid, snug fit. There are 2 viable relay mounting bolt locations that allow enough slack in leads and downward orientation, which is recommended. Exhaust manifold heat shield. Decided that excessive heat and vibration may degrade the relay. I opted for the dynamo mounting bolt, same as another poster showed on a pic. The bracket hole is a bit undersized and needs to be drilled out. I tie wrapped all leads to secure from chafing/vibration. Bottom line, no more charging the battery every time I use the tractor and I can turn it off in the areana or pasture w/o worrying about a restart. Tractor **** to tractor heaven for $26. Cost me a bit of aggravation to get here. Kudos and thanks to Kubmech and all who have offered info. Note: In this process I got my hands on a BX wiring diagram. Should cover all 722 and 905 engines. I could not find it on any web search. I don't have access to scanner, as soon as I do I'll post the diagram on this site. One more thing, dust is a conductor, especially when it is moist. I hosed off my tractor, with close attention to the 2 start circuit safety switches (PTO and drive lever). This seemed to help on starts before I installed the relay. One poster mentioned contact cleaner, can't hurt.

Does anybody know if the John Deere am 107421 relay kit will work on a Ghel 3825 skid steer with a Kabota v-1305-b engine? It has the same problem as described above. Searching around I noticed this part only works on certain engines. Thanks for your help.

Old post, old tractor. Fix still works. Dealer quoted app $675.00 starter and Ignition switch, etc. Believe I am under $30.00 for part from John Deere, little bit of zip tie, tax, etc. If kubotamech (?) is still around, thank you.
Adding this in case anyone else is having this problem now,:):):)

Thank you so much for the photos! It is true that a picture is worth a 1000 words!

It should work on any engine, but you might need to put different connectors on the ends of the wires.
You could also make your own for $10 with a basic relay (such as KC Hilites 3300 12 Volt Relay : Amazon.com : Automotive ) and a socket (such as: Amazon.com: Parts Express 12 VDC 5-Pin Relay Socket: Car Electronics )
