I have a 1996 B-2150 HSD with 300 hours. The owners manual says to replace the hydraulic hoses every 2-3 years (cannot remember the exact time frame). Do they really need to be replaced that often? Should they only be replaced if they are severly worn (from rubbing together)...or do they wear from the inside and show no apparent failure potential from the outside? The hoses on my loader look fine. I have never replaced my hoses. I am especially concerned about the rubber hydraulic hose on the rh side of the tractor that connects two steel hydraulic lines together, it appears to have surface cracks and splits on the outside layers.

Bubba, I don't recall anything in my '95 B7100 manual, and I don't find anything in my B2710 manual, that mentions replacing hydraulic hoses on any time schedule. And I don't know anyone who does that. My manual calls for daily inspection for wear or damage and I've never replaced a hydraulic hose on my tractors. I know of quite a few hydraulic hoses that neighbors have replaced, but it's always been after they sprung a leak.

I'm with Bird - if it ain't broke. as they say, don't fix it. But I did notice my L5450 manual says to replace the hydrostatic steering hoses on some regular schedule - I don't do it but I can see that if I wait until one fails I might be out in the woods somewhere when it does.

Does your HST depend on any rubber hoses? or is it all hard-tubing? Wouldn't be any fun to be driveless.

Yes, the HST depends on all the hoses because there is only one huge hydraulic pump for propulsion and the loader. I think I'll replace the small hose that connects the two steel hydraulic lines together....I think it is the return line from the loader. I'm going to do a trans fluid and filter change....I will be switching to Super UDT.....it gets cold here in Michigan. Snow is only 2 months away!

When to replace?

When the tractor is as far as possible from the house and tools and in the mud which is slowly sucking the tractor in. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

A typical "order from the dealer" hose can be $30. I use a hydraulic supplier that makes up the hoses for 1/5 or less of the cost. Some hoses I have had premade and keep them bagged up in plastic. Some guys make up one long enough to fix everything in an emergency. The ones that look cracked I replace as you can't believe how much fluid will come out when they blow. Sometimes a slow leak but wow you can pump a gallon of blood out in a hurry before you notice "the loader doesn't work". That SUPER UDT they don't give away/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

bubba: i agree with bird. i would just inspect and look for cracks, to replace on a time basis is not sound thinking. depends on the amt. of work and the type of work and the weather conditions.my friend has had a kubota for 13 years and he has yet to change a hose.

I looked at my L5450 manual again - sure enough it lists power steering pipes and fuel pipes as 2-year replacement items - but there is a double asterisk beside each listing, with the note "if required". Now THERE is some hard-hitting science! Kubota is actually giving their ok to replacing a hose if it needs it ! Whew ! Glad we have them in our corner !

Another note about custom-made hoses from parts stores, be sure they are the right length - not too long. Hoses that are longer than needed are much more prone to damage. Insist that the made-up length is exactly the same as the original.

bubba, I have a 17 year/old Iseki with a loader and changed the FEL hoses last year. No leaks but rubber was cracking off. This tractor spent a lot of time outside, even 6 or 7 winters. There was no "sock" around them either.
